Dash light bulbs

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Hi James, welcome aboard. 8)

Not so easy a question to answer, depends on the age of your car.
95-99 slatted grille, (D8) yes, replaceable bulbs
99-04 honeycomb grille, (D9), no, surface mount LED's

  just read your profile - 98 2.0 lx, so probably yes
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

For a D8, backlights are 501s and individual inductor bulbs are 509 T5 twist lock things. Local motor factors are your best bet for both types.

What the feck is an 'inductor' bulb Jon? Is this some more new technology that has passed me by?!

Haha sorry, that was meant to be indicator (as in warning lights, not just the turn signal)! Silly autocorrect.

Ah, thought that's what you might have meant, but as your posts over on the other place are usually so precise, I thought you'd already scanned for typos! :supafrisk:

Exactly why I usually avoid replying on my phone, I inevitably get something wrong! Never mind, that'll teach me :D

Here's a pic of the rear of the panel so you know what to expect by the way:
