There is no substitute for regular oil changes and using the correct oil.

1.6 is nicer to drive than a 1.8? Hmm. I think it's asking for trouble, as is evident in this very thread, getting a tiny engine to lug around an increasingly heavy car. I will *never* buy a large car with a small engine and they all seem to be moving that way just to satisfy new legislations. I was very surprised to learn that Dai's Vulva had a 1.6 in it as well. When he showed me the engine, it looked like it was on life support with so much complicated tubing around the thing...Bailes1992 wrote:Ford fitted this engine to replace the 1.8 in my car. The 307 got its MOT, a new timing belt kit was fitted, these engines don't seem to have an adjustable tensioner for the fan belt which makes them a pig to get off, and back on.
We think the crancase breather is not right because there is still a lot of oil round the top of the engine, some even came out of a cavity in the engine mount.
Here is a picture, for reference thats the camshaft sprocket at the top of the picture:


My cousin has got properly sick of this car and wants to get rid of it, it seems like every time one thing gets fixed another issue develops.
