Re: Tyres
That doesn't sound right mate. Mine had 205/55 x 16s. Have you misread the size or is that what is on there as I reckon 205s should be cheaper as it's a more common size than 215? I got a set of 4 for my old one for £180 earlier this year.plod wrote:Need a couple of tyres for the mondingo - 215/55/16

Re: Tyres
I've been extremely satisfied with Hankook Kinergy Eco's on my 406. Good ride comfort, plenty of grip, confident handling in the wet, less expensive than the Michelin's I was originally going to get. Only drawback is that they have flowers on the sidewall :-P

Re: Tyres
Toyos are grippy but wear fast.
Falken Ziex ZE914s are a good asymmetric tyre!
Other than that the usual uni royals or hankooks!

Re: Tyres
Mine are 215/55 R16 as well. You're right waue: 205s are a lot cheaper. Is fitting 205/55 or 205/60 a bad idea?

Re: Tyres
FWIW: have a look at blackcircles.com and/or tyretraders.com to investigate the noise/performance/efficiency ratings.
After choosing my favourites I'd then be looking on eBay for part-worns.
I know that upsets some people, but I'm a cheapskake and I pays my money and takes my choice so nerr.

Re: Tyres
My Challenger alloys had 205/50/17 tyres and would easily fit side by side in my boot, but my Hoggars have 215/55/16 and are a real squeeze to fit in the boot - seems the 16" are bigger than the 17"s overall..?
I too chose part-worn but only from somewhere where you can inspect the tyre first.

Theres nothing wrong with part worns imho, as long as they've not been damaged on removal, rwb wrote:FWIW: have a look at blackcircles.com and/or tyretraders.com to investigate the noise/performance/efficiency ratings.

people moan about part worns, but you don't hear them moan about them when they buy a second hand car,
every second hand car comes with 4 part worns , so whats the difference ?

Re: Tyres
I've bought part worns in the past, but since having kid(s) in the car, I've been buying new ones as a rule.
I did look on the bay at the price of some part worns, but price seemed steep relative to new ones.
I'll check out some of the options mentioned later as off to Lincoln in a mo

Difference though is when you buy a car or wheels with tyres you can check the wheels for damage to give you a rough idea of the condition of the tyres. I've seen first had what can happen with part worns so I steer well away. I think the government need to start enforcing some serious rules before I go anywhere near them.

Re: Tyres
It's an interesting point, you buy a second hand car you have no clue how many times the tyres have been smashed up and down kerbs or ran low on pressure etc - except for a visual of the sidewalls you just drive the thing.
I suppose you'd need to x-ray the carcass to see if any of the steel reinforcing is damaged but that's a bit far fetched. I guess if you hardly ever go near 70mph then any old sh*t will do but if you drive fully loaded at high speeds regularly then go brand-new premium?
Personally I go for Kung-po super racers but I like to live life on the edge.
