Cats...

Post by steve_earwig »

No, not that sort, I mean the other sort with whiskers, paws, fur and sharp teeth.

It's that time of year again when those Croats who are too cheap to afford sterilisation and too cowardly to drown kittens in a bucket cast them hither and thither in the expectation that someone else will deal with them. I've seen them about, it breaks my heart but we already have 4 (3 of which were strays) and I know if I can't turn my back we'll have hundreds.

I was just in the garden planting shallots and I could hear a little kitten crying and crying and crying. After half an hour of it I couldn't stand it any more, tracked him down and gave him some food. Unfortunately he followed me home. Lovely little feller, climbed up my jumper and sat on my shoulder meowing. I've taken him further down the road with some more food but I'm dreading going outside because I know I didn't take him far enough.

Oh no no no, what am I going to tell the wife? :(

Oh noes, how can you resist the little ikkle cutesy kitten? trouble is your place has more cats and dogs than the local RSPCA and it gets expensive and time consuming.

You might just have to be stern and see if it moves away to somewhere else? you wouldn't have known if you hadn't gone in the Garden? trouble is you're a nice bloke and you now know he's out there.........(I'd be the same).

These neighbours around you are twats doing stuff like this.

Report back later, you know, when the kitten is sat on your lap being spoon-fed single cream :cheesy:

Meow, meow, meow, meow :(

Yep, he's still out there. I couldn't miss it really, the garden is way back behind the yard and this little guy was way out in front of the house, over the road on the other side of the fire house. Fine pair of lungs on him anyway.

I've also finally made friends with one of the neighbour's cats, I've seen him about and he's blind in one eye and always runs away when I talk to him but I was in their garden (seeing if they wanted another :supafrisk: ) so he felt safe. He doesn't have a name, so I guess I'll keep on calling him Greebo then.

Odd things cat beds, no matter how comfortable you think it'll be they'll almost certainly never go near them. Fruit baskets, on the other hand... Or cardboard boxes, especially cardboard boxes  Laundry baskets too, clean laundry an' all. Beds maybe, but definitely if there's a sock or something. Carrier bags on chairs. We've got some of those stacking boxes full of holes, my wife was using one to collect walnuts and our tomcat Srećko was sleeping in it, along with the walnuts - that orthopaedic or something?

Anyway, looks like I've dodged that one: I had a delivery about an hour ago so had to go out the front, I could hear him mewing faintly in the distance and I've just been out again and I can't hear anything. Ah well, I wish him luck. At least I gave something to keep him going for a while

Aww, I hope he's ok too :( you did a nice thing to give him some food, hopefully that'll help him on his way. You never know, maybe he'll pop back some day and sh*t in your flower bed to say thanks :cheesy:

I'll have to show you some pics of the outdoor Cat House me and my Son constructed last month so we could leave our newly-adopted Cat outside without worrying about the cold.............will he go in it? nope! :frown:

You and your son run a cat house? :P I made one too a few years back, so mine could go in it if they were caught out. It's actually the cupboard from over the extractor fan in my wife's old kitchen with a hole in the side for the pipe. You couldn't keep them out of it while it was just a box with a hole in it but lag it with polystyrene, cover that in t&g, put it up on little legs to keep it off the ground, put a roof on it and... it turns into an object of fear and mistrust  The only time I ever saw a cat in it was one of my neighbour's cats when he'd been injured.

I had a young cat turn up in my garden a few weeks back, we live next to a car park for a football field and playground so I think someone threw it out of a car and left it.
I first saw it from the front bedroom window and watched it stalking the birds, anyway, it kept hanging around then came up to me one day when I saw it was in very poor condition and had to feed and water it....obviously after that it came back every day to be fed and watered...I couldn't take it in because of Jasper (my dog) so I decided to ask a friend to lend me her cat transport box.
When she saw the cat she fell in love with it and now has it in Preston where she lives.
It doesn't get on with her other cat, but at least it has a good home.

I took some photos of it when I first saw it.....

This is entirely true. All cats like crawling into bags, suitcases, cardboard boxes, laundry baskets, etc.

Mum's current cat, Marco, is the exception - he loves sleeping in all the aforementioned places, but also likes lying in the various cat beds Mum insists on buying. I bought him one of those radiator hammocks (it's a plastic-coated wire frame that hooks over the top of the radiator, and has a fleece-lined piece of fabric stretched across it). He was a bit nervous about it because I made quite a bit of noise putting it together - but once I picked him up and put him down on it, he flopped right down and started purring. I haven't seen him for months now (they still live up in Thurso) but I'm pretty certain I'm still his bestest friend EVER because of this.

Not just places like that, my mates cat Ben he looks very much like the one Jasper posted I've gone to Asda before now and opened the boot of my car and there he is sat all comfy in there ready for a lift back home.
He very often sits on my parcel shelf if i leave the boot open but this time he climbed right in

Another time i had my caravan parked by the house giving it a clean and just before setting off on holidays i checked everything inside the van was secure and he's up on the furniture flat out... Glad i looked or he could have popped up in the front window on the way to Devon..... Pull over Scott i think you're seeing things.

Another corker was a mates car for some reason he had to check under the bonnet while in work and his neighbours cat was in there keeping warm.

That first pic''s a corker John, handsome little devil too  Looks like our Obama (hey, it's what the wife named him, I call him Squishy Fishy) who wandered in a few years back, looks as black as night until the sun shines on him, then all his tabbyness appears in shades of very dark brown. Glad he found a home (does she want a couple of thousand more?)

I've heard of that before, they don't always survive unfortunately :(

We had a cat like the other ones when I was a lad, she went to work with my dad once and any visitors used to have their cars checked before they left.

This all reminded me of the dog I saw in Sunday, I thought it was a greyhound from a distance and it would've been the first one I'd seen here. Sadly it wasn't, only a normal Croatian mongrel just not fed for a very long time :frown:

I know what you mean, I got one of them for my cats while I was still in GB. Did they go in it? Ho ho ho, of course not

I got a neighbour,an semi old woman who put cats into bag and than smash them against the wall.
But people say she is a good person.
I dont know how can anybody kill cats...

I already have 2 of them,my couch looks like something dragged from Afghanistan, and any cardbox is instantly dissolved into million of dust particles.

I feel sorry for ya Steve but i know what you meen by that when you hear cat crying and you cant resist helping that poor bastard.
