It's a Bosch EDC16CP39. I think it can be flashed with a Galletto 1260, but on a £4k car I'd prefer a pro to do it.
Yes, guess I'd feel the same
That's a very good question: just how upset will it get if the physical delete is done first?
It can't be any harder to drive in limp mode than the 90 was.
On a 2.2 136, it limited the injection volume to 30mg/cycle, didn't change max rpm, (it turns out there are several 'downgraded modes' of operation), which translated into a max. speed of 83 eventually, but crap at climbing hills. It ran normally for about 3 months / 5k miles before complaining. When I eventually managed to diagnose it, the faults were to do with additive level, additive pump, (plug fell out).

The theory http://ftp.psyborg.rpg.pl/hdi/Citroen%2 ... Filter.pdf
suggests it should have generated a low differential pressure message, but it didn't. :?

If it were mine, I would sort out who's going to do the software and whether they also do the physical FAP removal.

If not......

Been up to work to visit the 406 and transfer some of my rubbish over.

The gear linkage has loosened up now and it feels a lot better, although still different. The clutch has settled down and I'm getting used to matching revs, and starting to make seamless gear changes, so much happier.

I figured out why the driving position is odd: the pedals in the 407 are further to the rear of the car relative to the clocks. Therefore if I sit the same distance from the pedals, then the clocks are further away in the 407 than in the 406. Effectively, the 407 is for people with longer arms and/or shorter legs. The clocks are also lower down (or I have chosen to sit higher up) in the 407.

Started loading stuff onto the 10GB MP3 jukebox. Very cool. Was a bit surprised to find the familiar Clarion CD autochanger in the boot as well.

It's official: the 407 seat is crap compared to the 406. The leather and cushions are harder in the 407 and transmit more of the bumps to my bum. Might be different if I was heavier.

So far I'd say it's better in corners than the 406, but I need to try it out on a certain roundabout tomorrow. Having three shitty tyres and an odd-one-out doesn't help.

1st is strange (usually is on everything)
2nd is pure F-ing EVIL
3, 4, 5, 6 progressively less so.

Haven't worked out where the power band is since it still all feels powerfull, but there's definitely a dull patch low down which I presume is where the small turbo isn't doing anything.

Excellent fun, but easily 15MPG down on the 406. Is it worth it? That's what I'm trying to find out.

Here it is from the side looking like a French car should: pointy nose and waving a fat arse in the air.

Here's the business end.

Looking very different indeed. Vac system gone, and noticeably less space between the various components, and a surprising amount of space around it.

Air intake somewhere sensible, reasonable access, I'll bet they fired whoever designed that, immédiatement!

Spot on Doggy.
It's very noticeable that the engine looks like a component that's been installed, whereas the 406 looks more like fitting a square peg into a round hole -- which in a way it was since the 406 design pre-dates the HDi engine and the electronics.

Been out to measure the DPF parameters. Looks like it's time to worry but not time to panic just yet

Image

Also, the mixer and autobox faults have disappeared of their own accord so I'm just down to glow plugs and regen request frequency.

Looks like it's doing a regen every 350 miles or so  I'm really quite outraged by that!

I guess it means it's got enough gunk to treat 1852 litres of fuel (say 37 fills of 50l, so that should last 22k miles which means about 18 months).

Plan A is to get the glow plugs changed (the buggers are down the back of the engine now, I see) and check that this satisfies it right now. Then I can wait until remap time for the DPF delete and get the map sorted all in one go.

I agree, it doesn't indicate immediate problems. Perhaps the 'too frequent regens' error is due to short runs etc when up for sale and some motorway miles will sort it out. It's reasonable to assume later incarnations of the FAP system work significantly better than the pioneering 406 implementation. Most newer pugs have smaller additive tanks, yet longer FAP life expectancy, (unless you drive it round town a lot).

However:

You will come to recognise the sound of the hrw relay energising 'by itself',
then it will irritate you,
then it will annoy you,
then it will bug you,
then it will really annoy you,
then it will make you MAD
then you will resolve never to rest until you have disembowelled it and cast it's ceramic innards to the four winds.

Think I'm exagerating?

I read on other forums that one doesn't notice the 2.0 136 regenerating, however I've never believed this.

It had a 240 mile motorway run yesterday, and the next will be the meet.

Much better today Sonia. The controls have continued to loosen up and I've got my ear tuned in now. When I went from the XUD to the HDi it was silent to start with but now it's deafening. Same changing again.

I still remember leaving my chumfy 406 exec and climbing into my modern Volvo.........I hated it........for ages......but after a while didn't even think about it.

I hope you continue to get used to things and that the car serves you well. I'd get rid of all the emissions crap asap then you won't need to think about it.

OK, now I believe it :)
Presumably it turns on everything electrical to put as much load on as possible. But indeed how would you find that out?
Completely crackpot.

My boss suggested going to the horse shop to ask about stuff for treating leather.

Well, hearing the hrw relay opening and closing everytime you put your off and on the throttle, made it pretty obvious to me. Noticed it within a week of buying the original dogmobile.

Maybe the relay's somewhere you can't hear it on a 407?

The council have sent me a new parking permit... but haven't changed the registration number.

The 7 is still loosening up and I've just about learned to drive it. I can hear the engine now. Up to 42mpg on the computer for the daily commute. It's surprisingly difficult to not use the power -- there's a lot more of it not to use. I also don't know how to use it -- there's this whole new region of the pedal travel where this really fun thing happens

Glow plug day tomorrow...

I've found that 3rd gear in Pugster is pulling power...
In Miss Pug, second works well with a quick change up to third being most beneficial

Amazing how every car is different :D

I think you have glow plugs being done today rwb? Best of luck :D
