Hi
as previously mentioned, i have a 2000 w REG 406 D9 1.8 LX. which iv owned for about a week
i have just started to notice what looks like misfiring when the engine is idling.
the rev counter needle bounces up and down by between 1 - 2 millimeters and i can feel a slight shudder from the engine when this happens. It happens whether the Air Con is turned on or off.
i have had the car fully serviced by a decent independent garage and was told that the spark plugs were in pretty bad condition and that the fuel was very dirty.
he says that the spark plug change has not cured the missfire but he said something about the engine gets its signal from alternator. i have no idea what he is talking about here but he seemed to be hinting that it was no big deal.
the car seems fine when its moving, theres no loss of power that i am aware of but then i wouldn't know as i have only had the car a week and have not drove 1.8 406's before.
ive also had electronic ignition error messages on 2 occasions but none as yet since the car was serviced.
Does anybody have any idea what the problem might be or if there is a problem at all?
Thanks.
misfiring

been to tesco lately
i doubt you've got dodgy petrol, the 406 1.8 is slow as anything so its hard to tell if you have a power loss, but if you dont think you have any loss in power and it only happens at idle then i would say its the stepper motor, my car is on its third one in 8 months
does it happen when its cold or hot, or does it not matter?

are you sure its a misfire, not just like a hicup?
as its most likely the stepper motor, but it wont misfire it will just seem like its, i would try cleaning it first, on my d8 its bolted with two torx 20 screws to the throttle body, but as you have a d9 im not sure where it is

i would like to try that but i have no idea what the throttle body is. i know how to put oil in and fill the washer fluid.are you sure its a misfire, not just like a hicup?
