Getting harder to start...

Post by Dix »

And now it wont
The first time it happend it took 5-6 secs to start totally unusal as Captain Jack had mentioned in this forum.
The following day I tried to start it .Nothing it has NOT started since.
THAT is a month AGO.
Battery is fully charged.
Diesel getting to the filter. I can hear the fuel primer in the tank.
New fuel filter . just fitted . it wasnt that bad anyway.
The car has been O.K. starting in this kind of weather .I had even left a 2 weeks it was fine.

Now all IT does is spin over & flatten battery.
Is there a fuel solenoid not opening. Iam guessing
What can I try.
The Dr has increased my Meds

I wish
nothing comes on the dash.
Something has obviously FAILED.
Trying to diagnose it brouht me to the forum.
It must fuel related . Is there a way to physically check that fuel is getting where it should.
I am Guesing again.
Thanx Dix

it could be the timing has slipped or the crank/cam sensors have failed, hdis don't have a start stop solenoid. don't open the injector fuel lines and crank the engine over as it runs at a min of 300bar which will cut metal, skin and bone.

Just gone through very similar problem myself over the last several months .
Engine very slow to start then progressed to not starting , could leave it for
half hour or so and it started. This happened several times so called the RAC
he got it going with easy start but did plug it in to his pooter and fuel pressure
sensor intermittent fault came up .
I'd had similar problems when in tank pump was packing so i changed that no
difference , changed the in rail fuel pressure sensor seemed to go away for a
while then came back this time car cut out while driving it , finally traced it
to a wiring plug that was a slack fit and not clicking together .
The plug is on the cable that comes off the hp pump and goes into wiring
loom just below ecu box the plug is square white or gray colour might be
worth a look ...
.. ooh are those drugs for me Matron

Surely, this would have failed suddenly and not progressively though?

Check fuel by taking the supply pipe off the filter while someone
cranks the engine , make sure you point pipe away from engine , mine
squirted onto the pavement

I TAXED the car for a Year.
I parked in some one elses parking bay when it happened.
I have checked the low pressure side. O.K.
i am going to walk the 6 miles round trip to pick some spanners to check the High Pressure side of things .What size are they?

Undoing any of the high pressure lines and cranking the engine is a really bad idea. It will generate about 300 bar, (4000 PSI+), when cranking and up to 4 times as much when running. At the very best it will make an unholy mess, please note it's seriously dangerous!

Maybe if you add your location, someone local with PP2000 can help?
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

cam, crank sensors can happen slowly and also give an intermittent cut, fail to start, fail over night or in use

No unfortunately I have to get a MAN in.
I in the past I underesitimated how MUCH Battery power you NEED
I like you had got starting down to a fine art.If ITS not the battery Its got to be Fuel.
. ALL i can suggest is getting a JOB LOT of EASY START between US . i have already got A CAN a day habit
F**K the CARS lets get B**********D
PS EASY-START is addictive

Well, mine still starts if the previous night hasn't been too cold. Waiting for PP2000 to arrive now... Started this morning without Easy Start, even though I do have a can for emergencies.
