This is a mangled attempt by this fire service to attend to a 'fire' reported on this poor blokes Audi, it's a bit old now but cringe worthy just for the stupidity of it all.......and the owner turns up after they finally get the bonnet up

Indeed, you'd much rather put a new window in than try and repair the damage these jokers did.

I saw a documentary once which focused on the way in which professional/trained people go about their jobs and they found it quite common for them to miss the blindingly obvious! like in that Video they all, as a team, focused on getting under that bonnet as that's where they perceived the problem to be. If one of them could've stepped back and thought about it then breaking the window would be the obvious choice.

'Sniffing' the smoke might have been another give away as would peering under the car to look for dripping/melty stuff.

Years ago my Mum came to me & said that the car had a water leak & could I take a look at it, 1/2 hour later & a lot of head scratching I ask my Mum why she thought the car had a water leak as I could find nothing wrong with it.
She said I'll show you went out to the car & proceeded to pour the water in the bonnet catch hole , I said a few expletives & showed her were she should have been putting the water ( top of the rad, MkII escort ). For her to say oh no! your not are you, I said yes why, for her to tell me she had put the oil in there!

i have come across 2 great acts of stupidity ,one was by my brother in law who is an accountant and has absolutely no diy skills ,one morning out of the blue he decided to checked the fluids in his one year old audi a6 which he had never done before.
he thought the power steering fluid reservoir was for the radiator and topped it up with water ,ended up needing a new power steering rack and pump about a week later.
another was a bloke i used to work with years ago who tried to top up the oil via the dipstick hole
