I know, he's knackered for hours afterwards. He's eaten a lot of them when we don't get to it in time, he just leaves the 'innards' and the face bit (nasty to clear up). Last week I found the remains of what I swear must have been a Hare because the leg bones were bloody massive whereas these rabbits have all been fairly small. I've watched him kill rabbits in the Garden and, although gruesome, it's kinda fascinating to watch - it is nature after all and he seems to love doing it.steve_earwig wrote:Bringing in rabbits is no mean feat for a moggy!

I know it makes a change to the ones I normally look at but it seems I will soon be a cat owner

Had a friend with a cat with socks, it's name was....
I must admit I'm getting a little tired of tabbies, we've got 3.5 out of 5 of them now. This little guy would have been in the house a lot quicker if he'd been black with white socks...
Mantises are cool
It's actually laid eggs up at my place in something that looks like a lump of polystyrene, apparently there can be something like 200 eggs in there

Re: Cats...
Lots!
There are no set times, they generally eat in the morning with the dogs, then it's whenever they want throughout the day - bearing in mind some of them are pigs and will quite happily lick all the gravy off their food and leave the harder stuff for the flies. They also have dry stuff in a couple of bowls about the place which they gradually empty. Cats are fickle bastards too, they'll happily eat the same stuff for months and then all of them will suddenly decide that particular food is poison and never touch it again. Right now they're getting 100g sachets from Lidl, a box of 12 lasts a day or so. Yeah, I know, Lidl, but they turn their noses up at Wiskers, Kit-e-Kat and anything else you'd think they' be glad to get. The only kitten food we could find was Whiskas and, guess what - none of them will touch it, not even the kitten, who's happy with the Lidl mashed up a bit with a fork. He's also getting some crunchy but I can't remember what brand 'cos he's eaten it all and I burned the box earlier. I also have a box of Whiskas dry kitten stuff but I won't be surprised if he doesn't want it. Also he gets goat's milk (the spoilt little f...)
The Lidl stuff is called Coshida if they do it where you are, a box of 12 sachets works out about 3 quid. They do some other cheaper stuff in tins but I know I wouldn't eat it either. Tinned stuff ends up being false economy anyway as half of it ends up in the dustbin (i.e. whichever dog comes first)

Re: Cats...
I see the dogs don't mind the new kitty then
We found our cat seems to like the 'el-cheapo' food too.....and dislikes other stuff in an instant.....at the moment he's on the mother-of-all-gourmet stuff (it actually looks and smells nice to me)
Oh and ours gets 'cat milk' not just 'milk'.......and then you'll find him drinking water from a flower pot tray

Re: Cats...
The dogs are fine with him, no problem at all. The other cats, well, he doesn't look like a terrifying monster to me but to them he's an abomination
Although they're quite happy to steal his food when h'es not nearby.
There's some cheap tinned stuff here I reckon if you warmed it up and put some mash with it whoever you fed it to wouldn't know the difference.
Actually, that's my usual way of judging cat food - would I eat it? Like the cheaper tinned Lidl stuff, if it looks like garbage to me I wouldn't even try feeding it to them.
You mog might just want some water, milk's all very well but no substitute for the real thing. Ours have a bowl on the kitchen counter, although mostly they drink from the dog's bowl/bucket thing in t' wife's bedroom. The little guy has a bowl down by the cat box I'm feeding him in (to keep Scooter off mainly), as well as the goat's milk, cat food both squishy and crunchy.
I reckon it's fair enough to feed them on whatever's cheapest, so long as you know it's not garbage it really doesn't matter.

Maybe it's another feral thing but none of the kittens I've had here (this'll be the 5th) have been pigs, I usually let them have as much as they want (we want a big strong cat, not a little weedy thing!). They've been much cleaner than the dogs too, this little guy was straight in the litter tray. If their bellies are bloated it usually means they have worms.lozz wrote:Ifind that kittens eat too much there greedy.(so its easy to over feed them)

The dogs not bothered with her but she don't like him her fur goes up and she hisses at him..... Another katty bitch in the house that's all i farking need.

Aww bless
Oddly enough Prints George was only a couple of minutes between spitting and shivering when he saw the dogs to using them as climbing frames. He'd be quite happy to play with the other cats too, maybe that's the problem - "I do not "do" kittens."

Re: Cats...
Here's the ACME patented Cat House Mark 1 me and my boy constructed, now having no woodworking skillz it was a 'make it up as you go' effort. Basically it's a 13mm? chipboard box affixed to a wooden framework (bloody expensive to buy wood these days
). We mistakenly cut each board the same size (forgetting to allow two sides to overlap the others, duh) so the 'box' didn't follow the traditional box shape......undeterred we soldiered on with the drillz and screwz until it had a hinged lid (freaking hinges threw me a bit too) and everyfink.
Lastly it was insulated externally with 25mm celotex and clad with a white self-adhesive laminate found in the stores at work

The 'entrance':

The Natural Ventilation system, thought I'd got too many holes at first so blocked a couple off on each side, how do you know how much ventilation it needs?:

And the ACME lid restraining device (Mark 2):
