HDI 90 info on relays in engine bay?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

HDI 90 info on relays in engine bay?

Post by allypally »

Hi, can anyone tell me what the 3 relays and 3 fuses in the black box near the battery and off side wing are for? Not the main fuses in the engine fuse box. Are these to do with glow plug heating and if not where can i find this relay. I have been having a flat battery the last few mornings so got RAC out and he said i had 15A battery drain with everything turned off. He couldn't find fault by pulling all the fuses and relays but he missed this box which i found after he had gone. One of the relays is clicking when i connect/disconnect battery. Found all three relays had badly corroded connections so cleaned them and now no battery drain. Final test will be in the morning. Fingers crossed.
thanks all. Its a 2.0 HDI 90 year 20000.

Also does anyone know off a diagram of locations of all fuses and relays on this model. Haynes manual pretty useless.

Off side is the side furthest away from the kerb, so it's either a very big box or..

The year twenty-thousand?

Apart from being pedantic... I could really do with an RPO but I know a D8 has a few fuse panels near the battery, maybe D9 semi-mux does too.

Ok great, photobucket is down

This looks likely:

Trouble is sedre doesn't actually list the fuses, so I have to work them out from the wiring:
8093 : additional heating fuel pump - no idea
8094 : additional heater fuse - probably the culprit. Early HDis had heater elements in the cooling system to speed up warm up times. Later HDis have a water jacket around the egr pipe.
8083 : rear RH aircon control panel - do what?

As said, I'm afraid sedre doesn't actually give me fuse diagrams for semi-mux cars. This is probably as close as you'll get http://www.peugeotlogic.com/fuses/fuses406/fuses9.htm (but doesn't even show BCP 3  )

Thanks again Steve for your help in this. Car started this morning so i have found the problem which the RAC failed to find. The box slides onto a bracket next to battery infront of the main fuse box. It has 3 separate standard relays and 3 fuses. So it looks like it is what you have found for me. I cant find any diagram of this in the Haynes manual. I would like to know what these do for future reference in case of future problems.

Thanks again steve

Since cleaning the three relay connections in the BCP3 box it stopped the battery drain overnight but also has got my Cigarette Lighter working again. I tried to find the fuse for this when it stopped working but failed. I did not know about the BCP3 box then. Would still like to know what the three relays and fuses do if anyone can help.
Thanks again Steve-earwig

You're welcome :cheesy:

It would be nice to know what they actually do, sadly that's all I can do I'm afraid. :(
