Well, Peugeots (and other French cars) do scare me a little due to relatively poor interior build. It all feels a little creaky and plastic-ky and a feeling like it will all fall apart at any moment. Just about everything that could, did fall fall in my mum's Renault Clio and her C4 isn't much better... If you sit in any German car or even your Volvo, no doubt Welly, the interiors feel much better built. The problem with the likes of BMW and VW is that, while the build quality is good, all you really get in the dash is a radio and so knobs to adjust the interior temperature unless you bent over for the "options".

Happily, I am used to plastics and creaks... and I am told the 407 is a better built car than the 406, which good as the 406 is fairly sturdy anyway, despite the plastic feel :supafrisk:

Wifes old car citroen C4 coupe VTR+ 1.6 hdi was ultra reliable. A great little car. The only reason we got rid was to get something more practical.

3 mths on she loves her new car Nissan X-Trail 2.2 Dci Aventura. I was parked next to a 406 the other day. I do miss the limo like ride the 406 had.

Looking at a Golf GTD to replace my passat. Bloody hell do they hold there price.

Tell me about it. A friend of mine bought an 07 plate, poverty spec VW Polo (with manual rear windows and no alloys) 1.4 TDI for £5000

With a VW you do need to go for a top spec model. Mine was an ex demo & fully loaded. The only thing missing is full leather. With all the extras it was nearly 30k new.

I could not believe steering wheel radio controls & rain sensitive wipers are not standard.

YOu should come for a ride in the yoyo, then you'll know all about rattles, creaks, buzzes and children's toy build quality. The 406 is like driving a Rolls in comparison.

Everyones moving on from their cars.. :(
Sorry to hear your 406 has annoyed you... I'm afraid all cars go wrong, it's just how well you persist with it that pays off - eventually.
Looks a nice car, but not a huge fan of the newer pugs I admit I am a retro girl.... seen two 205s today, mmm nice :D

205's

My pug had around 178k when I got rid. My passat will be going next year with another 20/25k on it.

It's not the persistence, it's the fact that something is going wrong on it every few weeks. So much so, that I am loosing confidence in it not to leave me stranded hundreds of miles away.

I have a wedding to go to on Saturday in Bristol and we won't be taking my car, simply because I don't want to be stranded come Sunday morning in a super expensive NCP car park. When this happens, you know it's time....

Out of all the faults it was coil springs snapping that did it for me. I think it happened 3 times. :(

Funnily enough, the snapped strings was why I got rid of the original 406 at 145k.

I am still on the originals on my current one - did you lug something extra heavy in it?? :supafrisk:

Yeah I know what you mean... See Miss Pug is a trooper, now the starter motor has been done she starts with no issues..... but it was the ABS that did it for me... a constant battle and I literally lost the will to live at the end....... Personally I think she will be broken / scrapped because no one in their right mind would want to take on a car of that age with such a horrible fault that WILL fail the MOT if not corrected.
At least if I break her I get to keep her plates :D lol

Volkswagens are no more unreliable than anY other car. The problem is people think they are never going to break down and moan even more when they do!

I was in a DS3 HDi yesterday. 60 plate with about 20k on the clock. The suspension was rattling and knocking, the engine was gutless and the whole car vibrated and grumbled at idle! Not issues you expect at such a young age.

I could not agree more, maybe my VW is a one off. They are not bullet proof, IMO the most reliable car I have owned.

As for the DS3's, I think they look great!!! As for the drive & build quality I cant comment.
