Greasy Windscreen
Im having a bit of a problem when i use the wipers they leave the windscreen a bit streaky, they are bosh wipers which i bought in september so not very old, the wiper fluid contains a 2L bottle full of tescos windscreen washer fluid but still the windscreen gets a bit of a greasy smear, which although does dry away when driving its a bit awkward to see, especially at nights with headlights coming the other way.
Is there anything particularly good at degreasing the washer fluid or wipers?

Re: Greasy Windscreen
ijust put a drop of Meth's in with screen wash,
clears the grease, and stops it freezing too.
(Tesco's screen wash,if its the blue stuff, its cheap and nasty, best off buying something alittle more expensive,)

Re: Greasy Windscreen
Back last year I tried Prestone screen wash which ruined a set of wipers. It's usually £6 for 4L.
This year tesco stopped stocking their own screen wash and had Prestone stuff at £3 for 4L so I bought 5 bottles.
I never learn! Destroyed another set of wipers

Sounds like nasty stuff, icouid just imagine it on paintwork,
perhaps it be better for something else, like cleaning oil off driveway's.

Re: Greasy Windscreen
Methylated spirits, how does that react with the rubber in the pipes and wipers? Do you put much in or just a capful
The white vinegar seems like a good idea, is newspaper really good at cleaning though?

Re: Greasy Windscreen
Or to decontaminate the windscreen, use a claybar over it.
If your still getting smearing after, I'd clean out the washer bottle, pipes etc as there could be crap in the bottom

Re: Greasy Windscreen
Decontaminating may improve issues yes and will help the wipers wipe more smoothly but I can't see a clay bar removing grease? I ideally would use isopropanol alcohol or white vinegar.

If you have a look the stuff in Tescos and Asdas is the same! Just a different label.scotty73 wrote:Try the Asda one it's all I've ever used...Think i better phone the wife and tell her to get some while she's there.Bailes1992 wrote:Back last year I tried Prestone screen wash which ruined a set of wipers. It's the cheap stuff from pound world you need to avoid as it's generally like puss water.

Re: Greasy Windscreen
Your vinegar technique seems like a good first step to take, thanks
I've never used any sort of claybar before, what sort would you recommend.

Re: Greasy Windscreen
I don't think you'll find anyone who uses it now but window cleaners have used vinegar and paper since the days of the horse n cart.FarmerPug wrote:

Vinegar and newspaper has been used for years, you can buy stuff from Halfrauds etc - or you can use things you already have in your house for free....!
