Who'll be demanding the most out of their 6 this year?
Thinking about what I have planned this year, its come to my attention that I will be demanding a lot from a car which will turn 11 in July.
Mileage is around 190K presently. (I had to change the clocks which read 75K its now 82K. Had 183K on the original clocks)
Right now its just the usual 40 miles a day commute and 10 for other duties. Up to 100 miles a weekend.
In June I'm driving to Germany, hitching a ride on the Newcastle ferry to Amsterdam.
While in Germany, I'll be touring my old haunts from when I was a child and visiting a theme park I've not set foot in for 16 years.
All that driving in Germany will quickly add about 1500K miles once you take the outbound and homeward bound journeys.
On top of that, it looks like I could be doing a trip down south soon to reunite with old friends I've not seen in 14 years (GOD I feel old!)
I can see me putting 6 to 8 grand on the car before July.
Whats you're prediction? Will you be demanding more? (Silly track days DO NOT count as that is needless waste, IMO)
Also, keep in mind the age of your 6. 12K a year is nothing for 3 to 7 year olds, ESPECIALY the diesels.

oops didn't see this thread ;)
Commuting is about 600 miles a week for me, so I'm looking to put about 25k to the clock by December with just work, but then there's holidays, festivals, concerts and airshows (I don't think twice about driving to the other side of London!) so if it survives, my Jan '97 Turbo will be knocking 190k by the end of the year.
Probably won't stop me occasionally tearing down "private land" at over 120 or pushing the car to its limits on country lanes when the weather picks up though.
Money wise I'll need at least one pair of new tyres, some day I'll give it the rest of its full service, and I've got to get the steering thingy sorted out as per the MOT advisory. Maybe a new bonnet, and probably a new gear knob when there's one on ebay for a decent price.

my 97 2.1td is on 198k now and i average about 30k a year with commuting and having a girlfriend thats lives 25 bloody miles away and kids that live 15 miles away lol. i still like to drive it hard and it still surprises me how quick it feels , especially at 80 mph and floor it , not many cars keep up when its on full boost lol . im planning on going to euro disney in the summer so i think thats about a 1000+ miles round trip .
does anyone else agree with me that the 2.1td is slighty quicker than the HDI 110 ? i ask cos my friend has got one and he tried keeping up with me the other day but i started pulling away from him ( on a private track of course
) and he reckons he wasnt trying but i know he was lol

I agree with you Darren. My mate has got one of the first 2.0 HDi 110's and when he got it I had my 2.1. I had a go and I definitely reckon the 2.1 was overall quicker. I'll give him the HDi was a bit smoother and maybe quieter, but the 2.1 is definitely quicker. I miss that car!!

Hmmmm.....
Well the 406 has been getting a bit of a rest recently with me starting University last week. I catch the train and the bus in as there is no point taking the car - too crowded and there is no bloody parking down there. Also being a student, its alot cheaper for the $25 in the weekly transport pass rather than the $50 in petrol + tolls + parking - Probably looking at close to $100 a week!!!
The 406 does get used on the weekend - probably driving around 150km a week now? Car is currently sitting at 135,000 km....still got plenty of life left - probably sell it at around the 250,000km mark!
I do around 12,000km a year or 7000ish miles - thats pretty average for Australia! Some of the miles which your cars have done are pretty epic - nice to see they are holding up well

I really can't work out how your car keeps going, are you sure it never had a new engine just before you took it on? I mean, the Turbo'd lump is under a lot more stress than, say, Bluey's not only just because of the extra heat produced.mjb, the man with the most oil-shy car ever wrote:

I've actually read of quite a few exec turbos which have hit 200k... It seems to be a bloody well made engine capable of lasting forever if it's not modified! I might be talking crap here, but I think the nice lazy throttle response helps here too as it encourages more relaxed driving and keeps things oh so smooth - you just can't kangaroo the thing! The fact it's mostly getting a damn easy life with my commuting methods can't be bad for it either...
I did have a worrying moment this morning however when I got stuck in an hour-long traffic jam on the M6 and steam started pouring from the front... But that was mostly due to me forgetting to replace the expansion tank cap before I shut the bonnet

I'm the winner I'm demanding the most out of my car
Every Year I demand more and more, and on the verge of another component failure its time to get the thing in bits again.... but this time its PERSONAL the car won't beat me and Peugeot will refund me for supplying dodgy non - peugeot manufactured parts! ! ! ! Damn them to hell!
So I'm the most demanding, demanding that Peugeot sort out my bits and give me some money back ! !
Oh yeah and I also demand that this year it goes off the clock..... ( speedo )
Hey, we can all dream ! ! !
Is it to much to ask for a 270hp 406 turbo???? No I think not.... but it will be mine, oh yes it will be mine !
