Injector 1 is showing values approx five times the others, so logic would say that's a problem for starters, it may mean that it isn't injecting much fuel or perhaps too much (black schmoke) see what the others say.......

Wooooow....... Injector 1 is seriously screwed. Just done a leak off test and..., well, see for yourself!

Even on cranking I could already see the fuel being leaked off from number 1 injector before others even showed signs of diesel. So... need to replace that.

How hard is it to remove the injector? From what I see, it's a bolt holding it in and then it sits on some studs, with the hex top. Once I unscrew the injector from the stud, I imagine I should turn the stud itself to "push" the injector out?

HBoL reckons I need a number of seals as well a new pipe going to the injector but from what I remember, Doggy just needed a new copper washer.

So on that basis injector 1 isn't firing as much fuel? (it goes back to the return line). So from cold the engine's trying to start on 3 cylinders really.

Exactly, Welly. I know jasper5 wanted me to stick some injector cleaner in the fuel filter, so wondering if it's worth doing that before I replace the injector?

I had a Volvo D5 last year with starting issues, that turned out to be an injector problem.

You should only need the copper washer that fits under the injector.

Should come out with a bit of wriggling, levering, and wiggling.

Thanks Jasper. Will order the washer and try it out. Let's hope my replacement injector isn't worse than the one in there.

Funny, how it failed so suddenly. I did a leak-off test a few months ago and they were all fine!

Alex, when I removed the injectors from my donor 110, they came out really easy and I didn't really know what I was doing...!
Once the rail is out of the way there is a bolt holding down an odd shaped flap that keeps the injector in place, once this is undone then you push down on the funny shape washer and this allows the injector to lift out ( a bit like removing a wiper arm ). My donor car hadn't been used in a long time and the injectors came free with just a wiggle....

the best thing for injectors is when fitting them use special injector grease which will stop them from sticking into the head, won't help you with removing them the first time though ,2.0hdi injectors are normally fairly easy to remove.

Re copper washers underneath the injectors, one of my lads has a 206 gti hdi and one of the washers went on that. Starting wasn't a problem but you could smell fumes in the car sometimes and under the bonnet you could hear it chuffing and feel small puffs of air. When it was out the hole in the washer had enlarged to twice it's normal size and was oval in shape. Came out no problem though just make sure you don't drop any carbon deposits into the cylinder and recut the seat.

Had to EasyStart it the past two mornings - just wouldn't start. Stupid thing.... Going to my parents today to get the inverted hex socket set as I don't have these and will replace the injector once I get the copper washers.

Still waiting for the copper seals to arrive (hopefully this morning). In the meantime, I thought I'd tackle removing the injector. I have been soaking the area with WD40 for the past few days, so I was happy to see that the injector came out with relative ease. I had to twist the injector bracket handle a little to get the injector moving around in its socket but then it was just a matter of wiggling it out.

The injector tip is filthy with what I can only describe as dirt. Common earth type dirt. Looks like I can take the injector apart but I've just about had enough with this car so unless someone wants to have a go at refurbishing the thing, it will be going in the bin.

One thing... if the copper injector seal doesn't arrive today, can I just reuse the old one? It's in pretty good condition.
