Re: Should I get MOT before selling?
Hm, another thing. Should I put my original engine map back on before selling? Don't really want to advertise it having had a map due to boy racer issues...

Original map. Even though mine have been remapped, I probably wouldn't buy one that was.

I've seen better recommendations I must admitDoggy wrote:I probably wouldn't buy one that was.

You could leave the mappage as-is and then go along with the punter's impressed-ness (made up word) in a kinda "yeah, this goes like stink cos I looked after it, all the others are shitters, that kinda thing"........

Re: Should I get MOT before selling?
Funnily enough I'm more interested in the paperwork and what has been done to the car. When I got my latest it hadn't moved to 6 months and was covered in tree crap and, maybe not filthy, but definitely mucky inside.Captain Jack wrote:Agreed 100%. I hate nothing more than skanky looking photos - how much of your precious time will it take to clean the car? An hour at most to get it looking presentable...
It's what attracted me to the 407 I am buying - clean in the pictures and just as clean in reality.
But the paperwork showed lots of service history, few owners and a new turbo.. of course if you have both history and cleanliness then you re on to a winner and can charge more. But I will still go for the dirty one with history over the one with nice stripes in the carpet but lacking it. Or even the cheaper dirty one with history than the more expensive clean one with history.
Maybe i'm just odd...
EDIT: To answer the original question though, I agree, if you are confident it will pass MOT it.

Re: Should I get MOT before selling?
As everyone else has said really, do it!
My new car has MOT out in January... I knew it was a short MOT on it, but so soon into the New year? 6th January it's due..... So, Christmas, New Year and MOT
Wasn't best timed to be honest was it......
I have loads to do for the MOT and I am not hopeful it will pass to be honest........

Re: Should I get MOT before selling?
Will book it in. By the way, if it fails and needs some major work (can't think what but rear brake disc is a little worn), will the existing MOT remain valid?

Mot testers very rarely fail brake discs, you should only get an advisory.
The existing mot will remain valid, but there is a possibility that you could invalidate your insurance due to the car being unroadworthy, technically you could get a ticket for driving an unroadworthy car.

Re: Should I get MOT before selling?
Yes, I understand that. Same as you should pay attention to tyres between MOTs to ensure they are legal.
To be honest, I don't know what it would fail on, except the handbrake... and rear tyres, but will put some budget ones on to get a 12 month ticket.

Re: Should I get MOT before selling?
OK, it's booked for next Thursday - fingers crossed. Adjusted the handbrake today from inside so it's nice and tight (bloody expect it to be with discs and shoes less than 2 years old and a 9 month old handbrake cable). Put the original radio + JBL amp back in, so it's factory configuration now!
Will advertise it here for a few days after next Thursday and if it there's no interest within a few days, I'll put it on eBay - the insurance on it is valid until 7th December, so has to go by then!
