I'm back.

Post by Quinny »

Well, after a layoff of 2 1/2 years, I've gone and bought myself another 406 HDi. I sold my last one to a guy in Stoke on Trent, and bought a Renault Scenic 1.9 DCi, with 108k on it, a full service history, and one owner from new.

2 1/2 years and 35k later, the turbo has let go, a common problem, so I decided to look for another 406, and bought an 02 plate today for £900, with 109k on it. It's got a light few scrapes, but what 10 year old car hasn't, and when I inspected it, it had the usual boot full of water, courtesy of the o/s light unit being loose, so I will whip both off, and apply a liberal smearing of silly cone around them, and then off we go to remedy the usual 406 anomolies.

Other things to do are the air bag light, removing the intercooler for a good clean out, a full service, HDi engine cover pegs replacing, and trying to repair the passenger side arm rest.

Wish me luck.

Don't sweat over the intercooler - I wish mine looked that clean.

It is.

I wasn't interested in a 90, as the wife has a Xsara 90, and I wouldn't want to be left at the lights by a Xsara. :x That just wouldn't be macho. My old HDi had an intercooler that was spotless, even after 140k, so I'm guessing that I'm just comparing. Anyhow, cleaning it won't do any harm and will show any problems later.

The body has the odd mark about it, nothing that can't be filed and filled then painted, (Only a couple of very small plastic nicks on the bumpers.) and then the jobs that I have listed, starting with the airbag light.

Can't wait.

Although if anyone has a PP2000 in Wakefield, and would be kind enough to plug it in for me, then I would be grateful. A visit to my gaff gets the kettle on.

Hi fella, welcome back.

I changed my intercooler as it was bubbling at the bottom where all the muck is - took 25 mins.... 8) I managed to bag a bargain on eBay, really clean too, but most have a bit of grime at the bottom - seems common.

Nice choice of car btw.

Can't believe the prices of second hand ones on E.Bay. My 406 must be worth more in parts.

The idea is to take it off, and pressure wash it until it's clean, wash the feeder pipe out, and then let them dry naturally, and then re-fit.

Good idea, at least you can see if it leaks......

My as well flush the pipes out while you are at it - apparently Mr. Muscle oven cleaner is good for it. Wash it out after though...
