Agreed, but, if you don't have an impact wrench of any sort......or the bolt will not undo even with an impact wrench....happened to me many times.... that's why I use this method for tight ones.
My method doesn't cost anything, but if you don't like the concept, don't use it....simple!!

You fit the bar against the subframe/driveshaft/floor....the engine turns clockwise so the bar takes up the shock and shocks the bolt free.

Remember, as others have correctly pointed out, be careful with what you are doing, keep away from all the moving parts.

BTW, there is a video on Youtube showing exactly this method in action from some American guy....I didn't copy it from him....I first used this method to undo a very tight pulley bolt on a Rover 214, nobody could undo it with an impact wrench, even a 3/4 drive HGV one.

So that the direction of engine forces it towards the ground ie forward of the engine

So i received the parts guys, so tomorrow will attempt the job..... Stay tuned. Lol

Was only $165 for the new pulley and bolt. Not bad for this island!

Like i said get someone to crank it for you or watch that the socket stays put while you crank it.
Next time I do one on one of these I will just keep it cranking in one go untill the bolt fall's out, as with the thread lock on mine was to tight to remove with a socket wrench untill over 3/4 out .
ps I'd removed the engine ECU because of doing the cambelt before I did this, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE IMOBILISED THE ENGINE !, you do NOT want it to start when doing this

Whats the best way to immobilize the motor yet starter still function? Fuse for ignition, or fuel supply?
If fuse what number is best

If your car is petrol unplug the coil pack wiring connector, if yours is diesel take out the fuel pump fuse, don't know the number.

Thanks everyone for all your responses. The job went well didn't have to use the starter as it was not on there that tight. Just used a breaker bar and extensions to clear body. Had to put a Allen key in the ring gear of the flywheel close to top of motor firewall side. Tightened with breaker bar and 3' pipe , as dealer instructed 180 degrees after bolt seats.
Took it around town seems fine , will monitor next couple days
