Radio/CD player fault

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Radio/CD player fault

Post by muffindell »

I have a standard clarion (top range I assume) radio/CD player fitted to a 2000 D9 HDI 406model. More often than not the cd player doesn't work. However, if I brake hard then it will often find the disc and play, BUT if TA is switched on and it switches to radio information (thus intrupting CD play) the player rarely resumes play. Does anyone have some ideas? Also, does the auto volume control work on these models since it refuses to switch to ON mode on mine?

I'd guess at one of four things: disc not being delivered to the spindle, dirty laser lens, bad tracking, or poor drive to the disc. You *may* be able to clean the lens using a "cleaner cd", but the other causes really aren't something you can do anything about as you won't be able to get hold of replacement components...

Ebay?

CD lens cleaner

Post by muffindell »

I haven't tried the cleaner route yet, I don't have all that much faith in a cd with a few fibres sticking out from it, perhaps I should tak the unit apart and give it a manual clean. If that fails does anyone know of a specialist car radio repair service? I'm not keen on ebay radios either, I've had several in the past for older Peugeots and all have been in worst condition than the one I wanted to replace!

personally i'd go down the route of buying a decent
one from a respectable place with mp3 on it
with the surround and take the old one out,
thats what i did with mine now i can listen to 1
cd with about 10hours music just stick it on random
and am well away

CD fault

I put an top of range after market unit in my last 406 and it worked well, but just looked crap with the dash, I do like the intergrated look of modern units.
