Re: Car reliabilty index
Both much better than a 407, apparently.

Although I notice that "engine" is a relatively high percentage on the 407 and I bet it's that stupid 1.6.

According to wiggy's chart:
Volvo S40 = 109.
Volvo Most frequent faults = Suspension (where's my T-shirt? ) @ 31.82%
Yoyo most frequent faults = Engine @ 32.57% (although this does refer to the oily bits, I'm thinking about the Diesel engine problems?)

Oh no I've just spotted Bailes' Mondeo's in at number 64 (awaits inevitable willy-waving response by Samuel)
Thing is if you look at the top 20 they're all little shopping carts doing very low miles, I wouldn't want to commute 30K miles a year in a Honda Jizz
these tables should relate to reliability and costs against MILEAGE!

Re: Car reliabilty index
Lies, damn lies, and statistics.
The more I think about it, the more I believe that these 'reliability' indices are strongly correlated with mileage.
I don't like the 'average mileage' statistic because I think it is unduly influenced by very high mileage examples which are much more likely in some categories (e.g. 406/407/mondy) than for others (e.g., Jizz). I'd prefer to see the median.

Re: Car reliabilty index
That's up to 2005, the "diesel as consumable" happened with the next incarnation from 2006 which scored 106, which I'm hoping means the petrol version is actually more reliable (yes, yes, yes, I know but check out the X3 and ML and you'll understand).Welly wrote:Yoyo most frequent faults = Engine @ 32.57% (although this does refer to the oily bits, I'm thinking about the Diesel engine problems?)
I was wondering which one was yours, the previous version clocks a far less impressive 114.Bailes1992 wrote:

Oh yeah, and check out the Cross-Dresser
I's still like one but it would mean going against the wife ("yes I know dear but you've not been driving the RAV for 3 years so perhaps now you're ready to move up to not driving something a little bigger"
)

Mrs Doggy hasn't driven in over a decade, but still likes to add her 2d worth.

Fortunately, she's sold on heated leather electrically adjustable passenger seats.
(No idea how she came to that conclusion).

Re: Car reliabilty index
It's all bollocks.
The "Air con" on the 407 accounts for 3.28% of problems. Hmm, as far as I know pretty much all of them break their heater flaps, which is (officially) a £2k dash-out job.
And.... ta-ta-ra-taaaaa... the least reliable car I have ever known anyone to own. The number of problems with that thing beggars belief.
Interesting how user reliability rating is always higher than warranty direct...

It is a common problem tho, made worse by the fact that the climate control is constantly moving them /heating them up,cooling them down, not good for shite plastic
