Interested to know what you guys think to ''warming up'' a car?
I have the opinion as to 'safe to move off asap after engine cranked over, although don't rag it for a bit' where as my BF is of the opinion 'Turn it over, leave it for a good 10-15 minutes on idol before setting off to warm up'
He's got a petrol turbo (1. and I've obviously got a 2.2 HDi
I drive off as soon as I'm ready, but take it easy until it warms up.
If the windows are frozen then:
Start up, seat heater, hrw, demist on....
Scrape side windows, screen, go.

2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I remember we once played a game on here suggested by welly ,

invited to thrash our cars in first to see who could get the lowest mpg
reading , i think it was 9mpg , he then suggested we do it on start up
from cold , any takers ???
I start car let it run for about 30secs to circulate oil then drive off..
In the morning, around 6.15 when I leave for work, I start the engine - defrost / scrape the windscreen if necessary then gently make my way to work after 30 seconds or so.
I have a dual-carriageway 3 minutes from my door so I try to keep the wind chill factor down too...
As a word of caution though, I leave my drivers door on the latch when I'm de-icing the window just in case the car locks itself.....
Well done to all the ex-smokers - I guess it isn't as easy as us non-smokers think it is. I would struggle to give up Jaffa cakes
My lowest mpg was 8.2 iirc ( big hill, second gear and fully loaded while stopping a Mini Cooper from overtaking.... I won )

Thanks Doggy, well done you too! I'm definitely an on/off smoker, when I smoke I really smoke (as most of you saw up at Haynes) Weirdly I just stopped like that this time around, then two weeks later found out I fell pregnant
Whilst I am in this way there's no way I'd start again... ever.. I've always been quite lucky to literally just stop when I really want!
In my works Transit as long as the windows are clear,it's as soon as the engine catches it's flat out down the road (until I hit the 70 limiter at least),it makes some quite funny noises under the bonnet but if it breaks it's not my problem.
