cold feet

my heater does not seem to blow much hot air out of the lower vents all the others are ok , any suggestions

I think they all do that - both of mine have.

If you look, the heater outlets are just in front of the ashtray, at the bottom of the console. Don't think there are any further forward than that.

When I had the console out of this one, I found the duct between these outlets and the heater adrift. Managed to get it nearer ro properly fitted, but it didn't make much difference......

I agree.... With Miss Pug I never really took notice but for some reason this car just feels so much colder (probably the leather one is sitting on now).
With the 205s their heater vents were above the pedals so your feet got blasted with hot air, was shocked to discover only a couple of weeks back that the heat only blows from the rear of the centre console... so essentially, unless your foot is always on the clutch pedal (or the rest) you won't feel much of the benefit, you're always going to have a cold right foot.... and I could easily say another reason to hate my 'new' car but I think the boys have learned my moans are all heading in one direction.........

Sure there are:

VENTILATION

1 - Windscreen de-icing or demisting vents.
2 - Front window de-icing or demisting vents.
3 - Side vents.
4 - Central vents.
5 - Air outlet to the front passengers' feet.
6 - Air outlet to the rear passengers' feet.

Recommendations for use

Position the air flow control at a level which allows adequate air circulation inside your vehicle.
Select the air distribution which best suits your requirements and the climatic conditions.
Select a temperature setting and only alter it gradually for your comfort.
For an even air distribution, make sure that you do not block the air inlet grille at the base of the windscreen, the vents, the
air passages under the front seats and the air extractor in the boot.

I can only suggest you all do a bit of grovelling about and make sure there is air coming out of these vents, that they're not blocked and the flap is reaching its lowest position. Like Doggy, on my D8 I found the chimpanzee that had the floor console out last hadn't bothered to put the ducts back together, err, at all, so most of the air was just warming up the bottom of the floor console...

My 406 had fantastic footwell heating, that's one of the things I liked about it, weirdly the 406 was the only Climate Control I've seen where the user decides on the airflow direction, I used to set mine to and if I remember, i.e. Footwell and Windshield and then the centre vents could be controlled by their own dampers manually.

Yep I use the same setting I remember seeing the vents while fondling about under the dash for something last year....

Agree with Doggy, mt D8 estate blows on my feet with all the force of an asthmatic ant. I've had it 5 years now and as far as I can remember it's always been rubbish.

My d8 estate also is very wanting in the feet warming department even with other vents closed

Ditto on both my 406s. 407 on the other hand is nice and warm there!

Petrol engines are a lot less efficient than diesels, so generate a lot more heat. I've not yet driven a diesel that can give me much more than lukewarm air by the time I've gotten to work, yet every petrol I've had could give warm air about half way and be fully up to temperature at about 3/4 of the way


Do any 406s have auxiliary heaters on the water line to the cabin?

Er yes, I think, on early HDis there are heater resistors and on later ones they have that water jacket around the egr pipe.

Yeah.. know what you mean... By the time I get to school I end up leaving it running to get a bit of heat in there... which then makes it less fuel efficient

Just as an addition to this: I've just been running me Pug (it's tucked up in the shed for winter ) and I was cycling everything I could think of when I remembered this thread. Putting the heat and fan to max I can feel nice warm air coming out of all 4 floor vents but I did notice that the sound deadening in the driver's and passenger's footwells is starting to sag and if they carry on I can well imagine warm air being scooped pointlessly behind the dash, rather than down at our 'ickle cold tootsies.
