Is it a D8 or D9? Similar has happened in my D9, just wiggle ur key about in the ignition, it could be the immobiliser which is around the ignition barrel not reading the chip in the key.

if it was not recognizing the key then it would say immobiliser comunication or something like that in the display, and its a d9 as the d8 didnt get the display window that tells you that stuff, you need to establish if you have no fuel or spark, take the airbox out and get someone to spray some easy start down the pipe leading to the inlet manifold while you try to start, if it goes to start but then dies you have no fuel, if it doesnt make any difference then you have no spark, if you have no fuel you need to check if the fuel pump is running, with the rear seat lifted up turn the ignition on and you should hear the pump whirr for about a second after turning the ignition on, if it doesnt, then remove the round plastic cap from under the rear seat, you will see the fuel pump with a 4 pin plug attached, check for 12v at the two fattest wires when you turn the igntion on, if you get this then the fuel pump has died, if you dont then, you need to check for continuity between the fuel pump and engine management double relay, if this is good then you will most likely have a faulty double relay which is quite common, if you have no spark however things get quite complex, you need to establish why there is no spark, the favorite is the crank angle sensor which supplys the engine management with information of when to spark, its bolted to the gearbox, under the thermostat housing, unplug the sensor and you should have 3 pins, one is an earth which shields the cable from interference, and the other two are the signal wires, establish which one is the earth, then probe the other two with your multimeter set to a/c volts and try and start the engine, if you get less than 0.5v then your crank angle sensor is dead, another common problem, on a good sensor you should get arround 1.5 - 3.5 a/c volts
but 0.5 is enough to start, if you get a good reading, then you need to check for voltage supply to the sensor from the ecu, on the same two pins you probed on the sensor, see which pins these would be on the wiring plug and probe your meter into these, turn the ingnition on and you should get 5v if not then check for continuity between the sensor plug and the ecu, do these tests and report back and i will instruct you further
you will need a haynes manual to do this for the wiring diagram
