The alarm bell that's ringing here is that if you throw the towel in on both of them and get something else, then are you just going to have a load of new problems to fix on the new thing? Because that's what buying a second hand car is like: they will need stuff doing.

I just paid £4k then another £200 for glow plugs and I know it'll need a clutch and flywheel within two years.

If you fix Pugster then you have a car with a new clutch and flywheel, new brakes, new exhaust, and two new tyres. It's worth doing if you're keeping it (and I'm still sure that when fixed it will be a cracking motor) but you won't get your money back selling it.

It's like when I did the clutch on my 406. I could have spent the money on another 406, but that would have had it's own problems.

On the other hand, you could fix missP. A new hub to replace the one with the sensor bodged into it may fix it, or it may not...

But first things first: which one do you want (most)?
The reason for getting Pugster was the diesel engine and it's better economy. Have you changed your mind on this, or isn't it as important as you thought it was? (No shame in changing your mind! Especially with the benefit of hindsight.)

I think the reason for keeping missP is that it's a 7 seater, but they could be moved over...

If you're selling then the diesel is undoubtedly worth more... with an MOT!

So if it were me, I'd fix Pugster, and sell missP -- it is, after all, just iron.

I don't like how this tester can tell you to scrap it.

Apart from the ABS these are things you knew about before today and with the clutch maybe revert back to the 136 map will get quite a few more months out of it?
I say revert it, take it to Jasper who has already sorted the abs problem on Dai's old car with diag and a new ring if i remember right?... It will cost you but you'll have a car with tyres=sorted, Eggsauce=sorted and the big one here Brakes all round=sorted which could be causing the abs fault anyway?

Just my two pennies worth.

Surely brakes and boots are service parts which I would be prepared to do when buying any second hand car, when you've got the old discs off clean up the sensors and reluctor rings and the ABS fault may well cure itself.
Check the handbrake cables for damage as that may be the cause of the binding, had that on my first 406.
Note - If you fit 205's instead of 215's you can save quite a bit on tyres as the 215's are not particularly common therefore cost more.
If a clutch and flywheel are needed then yes it will cost a bit but again you may be looking at changing them if you buy a replacement.

Are any of the wheel bearings noisy at all?

My ABS issues were quite serious, and were COMPLETELY fixed by replacing both the rear wheel bearings. Job done, no more scraping/creaking noises, and the brakes work exactly as they should. The rear hub bearings also include the ABS rings. Not an expensive job.

The fronts are easier to replace, because you can get the old ring cut off and a new one put on in its place; you don't actually need to replace the whole driveshaft (like Peugeot seem to want you to).

Discs and pads aren't too bad - possibly swap the discs with Miss Pug if they're in better shape?

Sonia your Mot tester friend is an IMBECILE, He suggests you scrap not sell a car that only needs £200 pound spent on it. The Moron, most of the issues are concerning the rear brakes, sort them and 2/3 of the jobs are done.

If you buy another car,any car, it will i guarantee need something fixing on it, its just the way things are so your going to be no better off, probably worse, also every car i have ever owned has its problems/things that arent quite right,if that is what your expecting form a car go and buy a brand spanking new one, then be gutted a fortnight later when it too has an issue and needs fixing.Mechanical things break and need constant fixing/servicing to keep them working.
Now as for what i think you should do about your 2 406's....................Keep whichever is worth the most money (none of this misspug/pugster shite) there bits of metal/plastic/rubber and sell the other one to fund the repairs on which metal box you keep.

PP Session:

Global test said ABS / ESP - faults found. Under fault reading, none were found? :?:

However - within the Engine ECU, I found this, ABS related:

Can't remember which menu I found these under now but these all require attention apparently: (Forget the additive one as it's been deleted hasn't it?)
Image

(Notice the fuel gauge was picked up and I had that thread about £10 worth got me half a tank?)

Other random pics:

(probably a wiring issue as it's falling apart)

Once all cleared, a new PP session:

No ABS faults found this time... but when I move the car will this change?

Still think it's worth saving?

Hmmmm.

1) Anyone know where the ABS ECU is? The "presence of faults" -> "no faults found" thing, and the permanent "no CAN comms" fault makes me suspect the ECU and its connectors. If it's in one of the footwells, I suspect damp.

2) I wonder why you've still got FAP related faults appearing. Once de-FAP'ed, all of the faults disappeared. In fact, the additive ECU doesn't reply at all under Global Test. Are these faults from pre-de-FAP'ing perhaps?

Well both foot wells are now dry - but the drivers foot well may have caused some corrosion or something...

The ABS ecu is part of the abs itself, search for Black Clio's thread on the fault he had with his.

none of the things listed to fix the car are terminal just because the mot man said he would scrap it doesn't mean he is right some people who work on cars all pretty much hate everything.
my car has had only one owner from new with 90.000miles and i paid £1800 for it and the first thing i did was to replace all the disc's and pads and sort out the handbrake, if you are really not happy with the car stick on ebay you won't get much for scrap.
