rwb wrote:The alarm bell that's ringing here is that if you throw the towel in on both of them and get something else, then are you just going to have a load of new problems to fix on the new thing? Because that's what buying a second hand car is like: they will need stuff doing.

I just paid £4k then another £200 for glow plugs and I know it'll need a clutch and flywheel within two years.

If you fix Pugster then you have a car with a new clutch and flywheel, new brakes, new exhaust, and two new tyres. It's worth doing if you're keeping it (and I'm still sure that when fixed it will be a cracking motor) but you won't get your money back selling it.

It's like when I did the clutch on my 406. I could have spent the money on another 406, but that would have had it's own problems.

On the other hand, you could fix missP. A new hub to replace the one with the sensor bodged into it may fix it, or it may not...

But first things first: which one do you want (most)?
The reason for getting Pugster was the diesel engine and it's better economy. Have you changed your mind on this, or isn't it as important as you thought it was? (No shame in changing your mind! Especially with the benefit of hindsight.)

Sonia, I could'nt agree with rwb more!.
All of those things are service item's & you did for the clutch with the re-map, ask doggy for his 136 de-fap map untill you can aford to replace the clutch.
As for your electrical gremlins / pp2000 faults don't take them all as read .
Also I did say when I saw the pic's of your wet footwell that It'd be a prob if not properly dried & waterproofed, trust me I know my old A6 had a similer problem  .
I understand at the mo it feels like it's all going wrong, relationships / car's / kid's ect ect. but I do feel if you tick with it it will be a good car & give you years of good service
for very little outlay once sortted.
All the best DDD.
I think the reason for keeping missP is that it's a 7 seater, but they could be moved over...

If you're selling then the diesel is undoubtedly worth more... with an MOT!

So if it were me, I'd fix Pugster, and sell missP -- it is, after all, just iron.

It really doesn't sound like there is a big pile wrong with pugster, sure it would take a bit of dough to get through the MOT but no car doesn't.
I wouldn't listen to whoever said to scrap it, my mechanic back when i was driving the clio told me the engine was worn out and not worth fixing, it turned out the throttle body just needed cleaning and the car ran fine after.

The ABS fault i had on my car a while back was also intermittent, loose bits of rust from the brakes were flying in the way of the sensor and stuck on it, pp2000 didn't pick any fault up the first time i plugged it in, i had to wait until the light came back and just had the laptop charged and sitting in the glovebox ready to read the codes.
