Now there's another story.....Remoulds, wouldnt touch them no matter what, cheapest tyre no matter what has to be better than a remould so many horror stories with those.

Sam you missed my point a bit, i had an unrepairable puncture so needed tyre/s the next day so no real time to do research and 2 weeks before xmas they had to be cheapest possible

I didn't know that remoulds were in fact banned.

Way back when, remoulds were an accepted means for someone on a budget to keep their car on the road.
Indeed there was a brand.., Colway.., respected, and also used in competition.

At a guess, I'd say the real reason remoulds died out was when the cheap new tyres started flooding in from Asia,
Poland.., Rumania..

Just had 2 front tyres put on my car, autogrip - whatever they are. 6mm tread and £55 for the pair. they feel okay and stopped my car easily when the silly bitch in a people carrier pulled out in front of me.

Only time will tell but I hope to get 12 months out of these, I will do the rear tyres after Christmas.

I just stuck a set of Continental WinterContact 850's on mine at £58 a corner from Camskill. They've been winning all of the winter tyre group tests this year and I can see why, outstanding so far. They replaced a set of Dunlop FastResponse which were also excellent, with the only problem being all 4 were worn out after 14,000 miles

Likewise I've also just fitted a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's to my 182 (a lot of money on tyres recently ). I've used them in the dry, in the wet, on track and off track. They are possibly the best tyre I've ever used, easily beating the OE Michelin Pilot Exatlo 2's that were fitted, although to be fair to the PE2 it's getting on for a 10 year old design.

As for part worns, I've used a set in the past. Like any second hand part you buy for your car, it is your responsibility to check the condition of said item and satisfy yourself that it is safe. There is no reason you can't re-use a tyre assuming you have done some basic checks on it first. While we're talking about part worns being taken off of the market, we should include a lot of new budget tyres in that as well. Completely hopeless low end tyres put everyone at risk, and personally I'd take my chances with a part worn premium tyre any day of the week.

Autogiro area budget brand who produce fairly reasonable tyres.
You could have had a new budget for £60.
False economy in my oppinion!

That's my Summer set, with some measuring before tucking them in at the weekend I found that 5000 miles of expressing only saw 1.5mm vanish off the fronts, the rears were untouched, granted I'll probably only see 15K out of the fronts but that equates to 3 years of summer use and you don't get much more than 15K on the T5

I had a pair of Rain Expert 2s on my last car. They were quiet, cornered and stopped OK, including in the wet, and didn't cost the Earth. Mileage was good, as was mpg. (At least it didn't go down.) They were couple with a pair of cheap M & S on the back end, and I had no problems with last years ice and snow.
