Truly sorry for you Sonia :( , you are having a lot of bad luck with that car & I can understand your feelings.
If it were me I'd tape up the back window using gafer tape & builders polythene & park it up for a bit, back it up the drive so no one can see the back window .
& drive round in the blue one while you take stock, think of it like this that could happen to any car.
If you do decide to get rid then as others have said don't sell for scrap your'll get penny's for it, & as you've stated you mot is up in a few days so park it till the weather starts to pickup as your'll sell it better then & for a bit more cash (take the battery off & put somewhere inside so the cold dosn't kill it).
All the best & hope you have a better new year :D DDD.

Thanks..
Already parked it ass up to the garage and got tarpaulin and bungees over it! Smashed the rest of the window out so the wind didn't do it for me!
Robbed the battery for Miss Pug I'm afraid! Once batteries swapped I tried Pugster and STUPIDLY with auto lights on OR off, they always light up when trying to start. So needless to say it failed to start and I was enjoying just hearing it struggle! Imagine a witches cackle and you've just about got what the neighbours heard!

Whilst robbing a H7 for Pugster I put it back into Miss P and she's blown a sidelight.

Otherwise she's doing okay.

As for how much I can get for the car, as much as possible, losing over £1k has been a very very expensive mistake for a single mum on benefits!

Will put on Preloved and scumtree later (LOVE that saying Lozz, nice one!)

Good luck with the sale,

Tip of day.. always advertise for slightly more than your originaly asking for it, Punters alway love to barter
so if they can get 50 quid knocked off price.. they take it away smiling..but you can have the last laugh,

P.s to sell as-is, would you replace the tailgate, even if you couldn't get one to match the colour of the car?
Dad reckons it would sell better but to me, I don't want to spend another penny on it, let alone £30!

In all fairness Sonia I don't think your benefits should be going on projects like these. Surely you should be using the money for essentials?

Lets be totally honest about this car...
The clutch failed because you remapped it. Get the standard map put back on.
The horn is probably a COM2000 issue. Hardly anything that will break the bank. Christ you could even buy a second hand worn unit. It would get it passed it's MOT!
Tyres are wear and tare. Why don't you take them off the Petrol 406?
The brakes and shot? So why don't you take the brakes off the Petrol 406 and put them on your HDi? While your at it you can clean them up, grease and adjust it all.
And you could replace the tailgate for £30 and paint it when you got the money.

To be honest if I bought a HDi as cheap as you got yours and that is all that is wrong with it I would have been over the f*cking moon! :frown:

imho, yeah your dad is right,

buy cheap tailgate, any colour get it stuck on there,
perhaps before fitting, go quid shop grab some masking tape two tins of black primer,
give it a good wet & dry, blow it over with rattle can black primer wont look too bad,

thats if youve got a garage and access to elecy/ blow heater,

There is nothing there which would cost big money to fix?
Take the car back to the place that it got mapped and ask them to reinstate the standard map. All reputable companies keep copies of the standard maps. That sorts the clutch out and will keep it going for a 12 month or so.
I'm sure an old worn COM2000 unit could be picked up cheap as chips!
And the rest could be done for nothing! She has another 406 there with good brakes, good tyres and a good bootlid.

It's all fuss over nothing

It doesn't need a new clutch! It's slipping because of the power increase since the remap.
If she has the standard map reinstated then there might be another 20-30k in the clutch! That at least gives her time to save up for a new clutch.

And when she had her petrol 406 on the road she was always posting up problems with it.

When she's had her baby and she can work on the car again she could break the old 406 up for parts to sell on. Engine must be worth a few quid and all the leather!

Christ, it's part and parcel of owning a 10+ year old motor! I've been there and done it.

if its slipping its F***ked,
It's only slipping and full throttle and only very slightly. It's only slipped since the remap. It simply can't handle the power increase!

Tell you what mate, instead of trying to convince me this car is not a lemon, why not you buy it off me and prove us all wrong?
Not being funny but how the hell would you know about bringing children up when you have none of your own - just sayin'.

Oh, and another thing.
It's only slipping and full throttle and only very slightly. It's only slipped since the remap. It simply can't handle the power increase!
In the beginning sure. Now it is slipping in 2nd, 3rd and 4th and for approx 3 seconds + each time.

This clutch is f*cked, end of.
And there is a very good chance the DMF is also f*cked.

It is not worth MY money to repair it.

But as I say, if you want to have a go - you're bloody welcome to it.

Oh and FYI, Miss Pug sure was FULL of problems. Most of which I got on top of before the MOT with the kind help of a couple of members on here.
Yes she has ONE re-occurring fault but that's SOD ALL compared to this run-in-the-ground estate.
We all make mistakes and I put my hands up and admit, this car WAS a mistake.
But I am a proud enough woman to admit it and move on.
