Just seen it now... love that Evanessence song... but that video.... well I am blubbing like a baby!
Also, my boyfriend was arse rapped this evening so I am not only worrying about him now but this video is scary!

Definitely makes you think, I think considering the time of year they ought to be publicizing ''those'' videos they showed last year about drink driving especially!

Speed does not kill. It's stupid driving that kills. There is a time and a place.

I agree that we need speed limits. I agree with speed cameras in certain places (Outside schools for instance). But I do believe that when the time is right there is nothing wrong with putting your foot down.
What's wrong with cruising at 120mph+ on a wide, empty, clear motorway in the dry with excellent visibility with a well maintained car?

The problem in this country is driving standards are piss poor. We can't trust people to drive without speed limits because they have no knowlege on how to control a car if all goes wrong!

We should be making people take classroom lessons on road/driving theory. It should be taught in school as a core subject as it's something EVERYBODY should learn.
We should be making sure the people who want to drive can maintain a car! It's astonishing the amount of bald tyres I see around or people who never service their cars!
There should be a minimum amount of accompanied driving hours you have to do before you can sit your test.
People should be made to spend so many hours learning car control on skid pans etc.
All that before you can sit your test!
And then I feel there should be extra training and an extra test before you can drive on the motorway on your own! Something like a PassPlus that you HAVE to do within X amount of months of passing your test.

While we're at it... Motoring convictions. I think a points system for speeding is rediculous. I think it should be a fine only. Say £2 for every MPH you are over the speed limit. 30mph over you get a £60 fine. The only time you should get convicted of anything speed related is when you're being dangerous or wreckless.

Drink or drug driving should be a prisonable offence first time round and a 5 year ban.

Using your phone while driving should be a bannable offence. They've prooved it's worse than driving after a few pints yet it's treated with a 3points/£60 FPN?

I also think driving without a licence is treated far to lightly. 3-6 points and maybe a fine of upto £1000. I think banning them from driving for 5 years if caught and then if caught doing it again regardless of time scale it should be a prisonable offence would be more like it. Although I do think that lighter penalties for people who may be driving with an overweight trailer as thats also considered driving without the right licence.

This country is so backwards is p*sses me off

Too light. If you can't pass a test but still decide to get behind the wheel, you're just as bad as a drunk driver. In fact, it's worse because you can't even blame the lack of good judgement on alcohol.

I find the difference in time from travelling across Germany at high speed versus at non-overtaking speed rather substantial, potentially saving hours on a single trip if you're willing to pay the fuel cost of travelling in excess of twice the UK speed limit. Wouldn't work in the UK though; too many roadworks, too many idiots, not enough police (who by large don't care about idiot drivers anyway) and the roads are generally not flat and straight enough for high speed travel. An 80-90mph limit in the UK would be good on certain motorways though - they could even use their new variable speed limit bullshit which is spreading everywhere nowadays to allow and enforce a raised limit when conditions support it. They won't though...

I believe we've missed the boat on raising the speed limit in the UK, should have done it 10 years ago. The environmentalists would go nuts if they tried to do it now, and the government won't upset the tree huggers. :supafrisk:

Even worse: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-25619914

Chances are within 24 months, that'll be applied across every stretch of "managed motorway", and probably within 5 years that'll cover 50% of the UK. With all this new "managed motorway" stuff coming along, it wouldn't surprise me if they stop installing gantry-mounted GATSOs and use SPECS (average speed) cameras instead, and then they'll just blanket 60mph the motorways and A-roads - using SPECS to enforce it over long distances and roads not covered

You were caught on camera at M6 J15 at 03:00:00
You were caught on camera at M1 J24 at 03:45:59
It should have theoretically taken 46 minutes to get there, you did it in 45 minutes 59 seconds at an average speed of 60.01mph, so here's 3 points and a fine...

Not a good sign. Another one we've noticed in recent years on French motorways is lower speed limits on the non-toll alternative routes.
Would making the M6 J4-10 a permanent 50 mph zone, 'reduce pollution', while increasing M6 Toll revenues?
