Reverse Lights on at all times lights are on...

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Reverse Lights on at all times lights are on...

Post by MrChips »

Reverse Lights on at all times lights are on, having read some info on this I have checked the "switch" on top of the gear box, disconnected and they stayed on, I've had a little fiddle about without really knowing what I'm doing, not done any damage, but I'm really stumped...

I've ended up taking out the bulbs till I can get things squared (the wife can be the warning lights till then! )

Is there some switch next to the gear stick, cars I've tinkered with in the past have had some sort of switch in this area... if there is one I'm thinking that may have jammed on...

But then what is the thing on top of the gear box I disconnected??? :?

Come on all you fonts of knowledge... Share the love

If its not the switch then you must have a Short to earth somewhere on that circuit.

Switch is normaly black or Grey, 22mm on top of box iirc,so i presume you have disconected correct plug,

Reversing lights are also not part of the MOT ( I may be wrong though ) so they are only fitted for your convenience when it comes seeing where you are going when reversing.
Having them on when going forwards will definitely get you in trouble with the local constabulary.

Yup, so right to take out the bulbs till I get a better grasp on things...

Chances are I'll never know, I'm beginning to think it may have something to do with the awful weather I was driving in today... water has probably gotten in somewhere it shouldn't have. It'll probably dry out and I won't ever know any different.

Just cheeses me off not having something working... I adjusted the light fitting this evening as I'd noticed I only had fitting for one rear fog light, but electrical socket for two, so bored out the small hole and fitted a bulb... wha-la! dual rear fog :)

Just need to get the reverse lights sorted... hope the garage is open soon.

Thanks as ever :)

And I should've realized sooner, it was after parking up and creating a groove in the high banked grass at the rear!! :frown:
