Today is a good day...

Post by Bailes1992 »

First fault I've had with my car that can't be called a 'niggle'.
Crank shaft oil seal is leaking.
Remembered that Dec '12 I had new timing belts. Looked at the receipt and found "Seal Assy - Crankshaft" :cheesy:

Just need to persuade Ford to replace it FOC now!

Why do dealers try to worm out of everything!

"Sorry sir it's out of the 12 months guarantee"

Sick of having to pull the Sales of Goods Act 1979 on everyone

they did a good job, and stamped service book so we thought,

no one couid change the oil again, f*cked sump and sump plug,

took it back and showed them the sump and the chewed up sump plug, they denied doing it,

Took a bit of persuading but they are having it on the night of the 16th Jan. They'll have a courtesy car waiting for me... wonder what it'll be?

I even told them that if it was anything but something they replaced I will gladly pay for the inspection, hire car and I'll get them to fix it!
I don't understand why they try worm out of everything. It's annoying I even have to do it!

So the crank seal wasn't replaced at the time? why would it leak so soon?

So either they replaced it wrong (i.e. crooked or otherwise damaged) or it was defective.

Exactly. I'm quite offended that they've tried to wiggle out of it.

If they remove everything and they find something else is at fault I would gladly pay for the inspection, repair and the hire car.

The thing is EVERY seal in that area was replaced with the timing belts. On the 1.8 lower timing belt cover is actually the engines oil pump so they replace absolutely everything while they are down there. Every seal is listed on the invoice.

Yeah... It confused me too!

I'll see if I can get some diagrams. I'd love to know who designed this engine

This is the lower timing belt which drives the fuel pump from the crank. This is a wet belt.

There is a timing belt cover that sits over this lower belt. Inside that cover is the engines oil pump.

The oil is leaking from the smaller hole in the oil pump.

This is the engine with everything all together.

You can see the outline of the oil pump.
