Hmm well if it's not the drop links, the only (relatively common) thing remaining (if it's definitely the rear) is the track arms. These can also cause knocking, but less commonly than drop links I think!

Go through the suspension checks one by one starting with jacking up each side and trying to move the wheel at 6/12 o clock and 3/9 o clock and feel for any movement.
Check the anti roll bar bushes for wear.
Check the coil springs for breakage.
Check the shock absorbers.
Check the rear trailing arm front bushes for movement/wear.

+1 on what jasper says, but to be honist I would only be looking at the top links, do you know they were replaced & for quality items  ,
I can assure you that mine looked new & felt fine BUT after replacing for lemforder ones the knocking was GONE :cheesy: .

Top links and drop links usually and it can be difficult to identify play on them. To be certain it's easy enough just to undo one end of them so you can check the balljoints whilst unloaded. I've got a similar issue, new top and drop links (original OE and Lemforder) and there is still an ever worsening clonk :? No play in the wheel at all, tight as a drum. Recent lower rose joints and roll bar bushes. I'm going out this evening to check the inner suspension arm bushes.

Replaced both links with lemforders and it's still knocking away under there , just wondering if it's the shocks now

Have you checked the rear anti roll bar bushes?

Two other checks to do...
With the car on the ground pull the wheel back and forth towards you then put a socket and breaker bar on a wheel bolt and try to move the wheel, feel/look for any movement.

Would shocks cause clonking?

Shocks will clonk if they are weak and bottom out .
These things have a complicated set up back there so it will be a process of elimination until I get it I suppose but the anti roll bar is my next stop

The plot thickens ....when the car is stationary and I rock it back and forth I can hear the knock as plain as day but I'm buggered if I can find it !

You need an assistant to rock the car whilst you try to trace the knock.....this is why I suggested rocking the wheel back and forth.

Tried that , wheels have no play at all ... Definitely hear it from underneath but can't pinpoint it
