Audio beeping

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Audio beeping

Post by ScottJ »

I have started getting a loud beep through the radio and I was wondering if anyone could suggest why it is doing this / whats wrong with it.

The beep occurs about 30 seconds after you shut the door (driver side) and if its gone off and you start the engine it beeps again, this is it until I open the door again, it randomly started after filling up with fuel, there are no warning lights, checked all fluid levels and nothing feels or sounds different and also disconnected the battery as suggested by my regular mechanic I take it too.

its a 1999 V reg 406 rapier.

before I go spend money for someone to take a look at it I was wondering if any of you could shed some light on the issue.

It usually means the head unit doesn't match the BSI.
This is the equivalent of a code, if you put the unit in the wrong car, it works, but beeps regularly.
You need PP2k to restore the 'match'.

Thanks for the reply, from the other audio beeping topics I have found on this site your answer seemed to be the most regular one however everyone of those topics mentioned constant beeping every so often whilst this one only occurs after certain circumstances, driving for at least an hour with no issue until I stop and get out of the car.

could this be a problem with the wiring between the car and the head unit, a lose wire or something? or are there any other warning sounds made by the car and if so is there a list?

otherwise if this would be the only reason and as it only happens at the beginning or end of the journey I will probably just leave it as it is.

again thanks for any help on the matter.

The Yoyo occasionally beeps 3 times, it's the traction control but by the time I look down at the dash the warning light has gone out so it took me quite a while to spot what was going on. Now I have a diagnostic thingy for it I can see the faults logged in the ecu.

Not that Pugs will do that, if there's a fault it should show up for a while but then I've no experience of a semi-mux (I think the car will be that) so they might not. I do think it would be worth checking for any faults logged though. You never know.

Also I reckon it'd be worth checking for wet carpet syndrome.
