Re: Umbilical Hernia
it does get boring sat there doing nothing,
but theres not much you can do about that.. sadly. im sure we will try and keep you ocupied on here, with abit of banter,
ididnt drive for a few weeks its not worth the risk, still sufering now with another hernia, wish icouid have that sorted,
its like having a stomache full of paintstripper at time's.
Well,.anywayz..dont be stubborn and just do what they say..and take it easy.

Re: Umbilical Hernia
I had to Google that, man that looks nasty
I hope it all goes well and you're soon back to doing the things you do
You're more worried about sitting on your bum for 6 to 8 weeks than having the actual surgery? I'd be completely the opposite, in fact because of my back I've done a lot of it already

There's a list? Where do I sign?!
I've had 5 surgeries under general for various things, after the pre-med you're not worried about much anyway, then it's 99, 98... oh, I'm done

Re: Umbilical Hernia
Hi mate - I've had my Kidney removed after it burst when I was 12, leading to lots of blood clots and complications, I have had my spleen removed after an RTA at 16 and also bowel surgery when I was 19.
The operations were fine and the care I received in hospital was excellent - I will always stick up for the NHS as it has been good for me.
Apart from a few simple issues with scar-tissue etc - I have been fine now for 20 years, apart from Warfarin for life
Just remember to do what the doctors / nurses say - plenty of rest will speed up recovery. If you do something silly too soon you will undo all your bodys efforts to repair itself and you will be back to square one.
Good luck, our doctors are some of the best in the world, its up to how you recover.

What ever you do don't lay there any watch your heart rate drop slowly as they try to put you under. I did this when i was 16 panicked heart and blood pressure went nuts it appears i was fighting the sleepy injection as i had been up for 24hrs in pain with my jaw. Im a big lad as CJ and RWB when i come round they said that they thought they had killed me i stopped breathing in recovery the gave the doctor a right hook to the jaw and pushed a nurse over as i was coming round

Sorry, just sounds like there's not much of you left

Tremmy - you're under orders to sit around doing f*ck all for a while? sounds like bliss to me. I guess it's like most 'routine-ish' ops now; rest to begin with then slowly start a programme of pottering around gently and increasing activity (sympathetically).....ooh I've got a blockwork wall to take down in 2 weeks, can you help load the Skip? I'll give you £40.00?

Kindey must have been a big deal it's gotta be up there with the 23 hour liver operation i had when i was 12... 6 grapefruit sized cysts removed and if one broke it was lights out... They were out twice on the operating table apparently.

This was the major one out of 3 huge ops in just over two years first was half my left lung removed just after I turned 11 then has a result of that operation my stomach moved up into my ribs

I had 10 years of fun after all that then collapsed in the house aged 24 spewed blood all over my bedroom and I ain't been right since, i currently hold our hospitals record for the most endoscopies (google that) they stopped counting after I had my 30th i think I've probably had about 45 of the horrible bastard things and most of them with no sedation..... I was sedated last time I'm not as brave as I use to be.
Trem. Has you know my dads had the umbilical hernia done I'll rib mam for some info when I phone her tonight, from what I remember he didn't drive for 4 weeks and had to rest for 6.
Re: Umbilical Hernia
Thanks for the comment Guys
Mine is a simple operation compred to some of yours, basically just cut me open below where my belly button used to be pull/push my intestines back in, sew some mesh on the inside, thensew up the original cut.........................simples
Don't think i will be having a pre-med as its only day surgery,go in for 12 noon and all being well i will be sent home same day, cant see it happening like that but time will tell. Dave i'm no small bloke either with my current weight loss i'm down to 18 1/2 stone

All the best Trem, the recovery time after keyhole surgery is pretty speedie, they usually do it as day surgery.
Get yourself some arnica, it sounds a bit hippie but it does help with the healing.
