PPK2000 Not Finding Engine ECU

First off, I tried to enter the DAM, but could not enter the six digits from the suspension turret. It would only take the first five, which is where I think it may have all gone wrong. On the Global Test, it recognized all the ECUs and gave Version Nos except for the Engine ECU. It said it couldn't find it! I tried doing an Engine ECU test only, but again it said it couldn't find it. I did the follow through sequence, and it said to check ign and battery live feeds to I320, but I don't know what that is. I am unsure as to whether I have fed it duff info, or I am really looking for an ECU problem. Help please. Thanks.

Additional: I am trying to find out why it wouldn't start today or Sunday after being used last Tuesday when it gave no hint of a problem. It has stood unused from last Tuesday until I tried to start it Sunday.

It probably only wants the date part of the DAM, try entering just the first four digits

The build code looks like:
0Dxxx89
where:
0 is a zero
D is either 8 or 9
xxx are three digits
89 is the factory code for Sochaux.

PP2000 should want the first 5 digits.

If you have 6 digits on the turret then are you missing a leading zero?

Rich, since it's a 1998 car there's a fair chance that D could be 7

Pretty sure my D8 didn't have the leading zero printed on the turret.

Must admit I had read the first number wrong, I thought it was a 1, but could just as easily be a 7. So will try again soon with a 0 in front. In the meantime, I noticed that I no longer have an EML light working, which I assume is relevant. I checked with Mr Haynes, and checked the No 4 fuse in the engine bay. I have changed that with a known good one, but still don't have an EML. The Haynes book does nothing for a wiring diagram for the Lucas EPIC system, so am stuck at the moment.

It's definitely not a 1 mate, more likely to be a 7.

The lack of EML is likely to be the bulb to be honest, pull the instrument panel out and replace, they're 509T twist-lock style things. 20 minute job

I spent most of last night and today trying to get my PP2000 to talk to the Engine ECU, but still no joy. It does talk to the Airbag ECU and Power Steering ECU OK though. I have managed to get hold of some EPIC wiring diagrams and have been scouring them looking for relays and any other fuses which could be 'involved'. No joy so far, but I need the car so will not give up.
In the meantime, I am now going out to check the bulb. Thanks guys.

I changed the bulb holder for a known working one, (main beam warning), and there is no difference, the EML still not on. My PP2000 light comes on when plugged into the laptop, but not when only connected to the socket. I have been told that the light should come on when connected to the car, otherwise it means the ECU is not getting power. I have tried ignition on and off, and still no light from the car only. Is this right? I have now replaced all the fuses in the engine bay fuse box with new ones.
Can anyone tell me for sure whether I have an inertia switch? If so, where should it be. The car is a 2.1 TD 12V. There is not one mounted in the suspension turret area, and I don't know if it did have one there, maybe it has been removed/relocated by a previous owner. All the wiring diagrams say there is one in the circuit, but the diagrams I can find for EPIC are for different manufacturers. (Can't find one for the 406.)

Update: I am getting power to the ECU pin No 20, with ignition on.

I cannot now eliminate either the ECU or the double relay as to which is the failed unit. I have three conflicting wiring diagrams. Yet they all agree on one thing. Fuse 25 from the cockpit fusebox should give three live feeds to the double relay socket. Removal of the fuse only takes out two. (Interestingly, one of the Peugeot wiring diagrams I have found for a 2.1 TD shows an HT Coil pack.) Has anybody got any pin-out diagrams for the double relay please.
