Re: Vibration flexi/cat?
Ok so I checked this yesterday and I report back no excessive movement. In fact it sits pretty well with and blips on the throttle. So I can only presume that the flexi is too stiff?!dirtydirtydiesel wrote:406HDi3 wrote:Thanks for the tip although I'm not sure how I'd tell if the engine lurches forward because any blip rocks the engine

,
IF THE ENGINE MOVE EXCESSIVELY : ie back wards & forwards more than 25mm / 1" then your bottom steady / mount is F.U.B.A.R'D

Vibration flexi/cat?
Well I had another cat / flexi fitted today but it was of the same type. Still a huge vibration!!
With the original one put back on, to test, no vibration (plus a few leaks).
What was discovered though after this is that there are two types for my car; a Bosch and a Siemens.
Any idea what the variants are and why?
My car is Bosch and so this one has now been ordered but it's a two piece set; flexi-cat and centre pipe as one piece and then that connects to the back box
Currently I have an additional centre pipe so my exhaust system is 3 pieces. Cat/flexi, centre pipe and back box.
I can't see the Bosch system stopping the vibration unless they are angled differently from the manifold?!

Re: Vibration flexi/cat?
Very odd... No idea. My Bosch one had a centre silencer box as well, as opposed to just a pipe.

Re: Vibration flexi/cat?
Yes it is odd. Should mention these are from the Bosal range.

That's it! But why Siemens and a Bosch?jasper5 wrote:http://www.catalogue.bosal.com/pages/ex ... &year=2001

Re: Vibration flexi/cat?
Maybe it's related to the type of injection system?
Re: Vibration flexi/cat?
Yes it is but I don't understand what the difference is. I'm just trying to get rid of the nasty vibration from the one I have installed. Everyone says it's the flexi that's too stiff causing the vibration.

Re: Vibration flexi/cat?
Difficult to say without looking at the car.
Re: Vibration flexi/cat?
Well I'm hoping the Bosch system will be different enough to avoid any vibration.

Re: Vibration flexi/cat?
Just read this and yes, had same thing, and it has to be after market flexis.
My engine mounts were fine but I ran a can of EGR cleaner through the engine which caused massive engine movement, 1 week later I had a busted exhaust and had to limp back from Rutland with a family sized nibblet can & hose clips holding it all together.
I have since changed the mounts but there was nothing wrong with the old ones.
The replacement exhaust was the cheapest around by far and it was too much hassle to go back.
I have got used to it but it's not nice.

Re: Vibration flexi/cat?
I must admit I haven't examined the exhaust joints on my HDI but the XUD has a bolt and spring arrangement to clamp it to the engine, did they miss the springs out when they changed the exhaust.
Mine broke once and I had to temporarily bolt it back on without springs and it was like sitting in a very large sex toy at certain RPM's.
