will have a properly working car soon with no issues. i really cant stand driving around in a noisy, worn out old car, there is no need for it really as parts are so cheap. i know it takes time but even a few hours each weekend will get most problems sorted quickly.
it has a nice cream cloth interior which was really filthy covered in mould and dog hair. i stripped out every thing inc door cards and carpets and shampooed every bit of cloth and now its like new and smells like new aswell.

Sounds like you are doing a great job, you should treat us to some photos of the car :D

I have this one that I rescued back in september, have done a lot of similar work to yours since I got it....now in A1 condition.

i'll sort some pics in the morning if not raining too much. i like the colour combinations in yours. nice cream leather. if id had a darker interior i would have changed it to leather in cream but cant see the point if ive already got cream fabric ans in excellent condition.
i paid 700 for mine with 6months tax and 9 months mot and spent another 150-200 on it so far excluding any tools and the shampoo machine as i have a few old Mercedes aswell that needed valeting and ive renewed all the discs, pads and shocks on those plus lots of suspension links so they run as they should now.
am enjoying doing it myself as very satisfactory when you put it back together and its better than when you started.

changed the brake fluid today, it came out nearly black, it was filthy. the new stuff i put in was clear, never seen it colourless before but it made a huge difference it has halved the pedal travel needed for it to stop properly.

i might change mine, my car has only done 96,000miles but there is no record of it being changed, did you use a pressure bleeder or just the old pump the pedal method ?

i bought a kit from halfords. has a one way valve built into the clear plastic pipe and has a bottle to catch the fluid.
you just put the pipe on the nipple and then open nipple and pump brake pedal then get out and close nipple.
cost £5.99 and worth every penny.

nearly done BUT today it started making a rattling noise on start up for a few seconds and on the overrun slowing down to a roundabout or similar. will try and get it on video if i can.
noticed the engine shakes more on start-up and shut down aswell. do these have dual mass flywheel do you know. not sure what engine variant it is just says hdi 110hp.if i blip the throttle it seems to shake a little bit just over tick over then goes back to normal when ticking over. a bit of a worry.

Yes, they have dual mass flywheel!

When my 407 flywheel failed the symptoms were a ratting on tickover plus a vibration that could be felt through the passengers feet on the floor.

I would check the engine mountings before diving into a DMF replacement, at least eliminate the mountings.

as you mention the feel through the passenger feet my friend said last week she could feel a vibration and i thought it was the drop link i hadn't replaced yet.
prob not worth doing do you think. 300-400 for the flywheel plus clutch is expensive. just hope it keeps going a bit longer otherwise I'm nearly 900 pounds down. a bit of a bummer but i live and learn

Annie,
You stated that you car has covered over 140k, so as jasper say engine mounts & steadys first but I'm afraid that you clutch will be very well used with that millage

will look at mounts as they very cheap and fairly easy to do. i'll leave clutch for a while until i know if dmf is broken. prob wont invest time and money in new dmf just wait for it to die and get another car. looked at prices and dmf and clutch is £325 cheapest ive found and doesn't look an easy diy job aswell
