I can haz ebay account

Post by Welly »

Well, my 15 year old Daughter can. Despite my previous reservations she's been buying and selling stuff from scratch for the last 6? weeks or so....parcels come and parcels go....and she's now got £75.00 in the paypal account :o she started by buying and selling clothes (T-shirts, shorts etc) all stuff she no longer wears (or never wore  ) and I was surprised at the interest she got. A couple of CD's have been sold and some other tat.

Remember that Mens T-shirt a few years ago, Next were selling them as a 'Paul Smith' commission, it was Navy/Black and has a mahoosive Orange Sunset and a small Rabbit sat there :? well I never wore mine (don't like to be seen in the same clobber as every other bloke on the street) so out it came and pictures were took - 5 mins later it's on the bay - a week later I can haz £12.00

I may* be waiting on delivery of a men's never-worn-and still-got-labelz Jack Wills Polo tomorrow :) last Friday night me and that there daughter was bidding on said Polo (I did haz 4 cans of intoxicant at the time) and it got into quite a bidding frenzy towards the end it was fascinating i have to admit

I still don't like the arse-kissing review/feedback sh*t but hey, oh and I don't get the postage - you can charge someone £3.00 and then when the parcel reaches them it's stamped up as £1.60 or whatever from Mr Posty - or don't they care?

Because the other quid and a half is for wrapping it? I've bought loads of stuff but I still didn't get around to selling anything, the prospect of working out how much it would be to send anything from here scares the bejeezus out of me.

You don't have to write what everyone else writes in the box, I just put stuff like "received with thanks" maybe add that it's working or perhaps a comment on the speed of delivery.

Yeah I s'pose you need a bit for packaging and shoe leather.....

I bought some proper postage poly bags for sending stuff, you know the ones with the peely-off flap over sealy thing that are impossible to open again, Iron Man would struggle to open these, they were bargainous from Amazon :cheesy:

Some skank sent us a T-shirt wrapped in paper :? it arrived pretty much unscathed though.

I'd say as long as you're running at a profit the job's a good un.

Indeed I range from "exactly as described, very fast delivery" which means "normal" to "as described" which means "thieving bastard".

To be fair we had a pile of old tat we wanted to Car-Boot but knowing how piss-takingly cheap the stuff goes for at said Car Boot [think: 10p, 50p....] then this 'ere ebay is working well so far.

I've got two very expensive Aux Belt Tensioners in a cupboard for the Volvo what were procured mistakenly when I thought they were noisy - I might try and punt them on.....

Shouldn't you hold onto them in case you need them?

This is a Lucas K2F magneto serial number 42413A (which is listed for a 1963 BSA A10 Super Rocket or a Rocket Gold Star). On ebay they go for 40-50 quid for a basket case, up to 250-500 quid for reconditioned ones. I have one here but my dad has 4 more (plus some others). They're not basket cases, they're not reconditioned, they're "brand new", they've never been on a bike. The big question is how the bluddy hell much are they worth?

I asked on the TDM forum and they suggested asking on the BSA oc website (which I joined but then found they were BSA rifles  ) and the VMCC which costs money to join, which I didn't want to do just to ask a question.

I'm not expecting anyone on here to be able to help me with, just kind of sharing my troubles really. I should really poke one on ebay and see what happens but I've no idea how to start working out the postage (they are rather heavy). I can't give much of a guarantee on them either, they've been carefully stored but I read the (rather dodgy) electronics can deteriorate if they're not used. This one sparks like a good'un anyway.

We use ebay quite a bit for buying and selling, but a few years back we used it lots! The selling started when I was looking for a DVD which was £18.99 on all the web retailers etc., couldn't find it cheaper anywhere. I was in Tesco one day and saw it for £11.99, so obviously I picked it up. Then it dawned on me that if I bought another 3 and sold them on Ebay for £18 each, even with P&P and fees etc, it'd more than pay for the one I was keeping. So I did, put them on for £18 with free P&P and they went that evening, so the next day I went back to Tesco and cleared the shelf again, and that was the birth of a monster!

The Mrs is a teacher and she spent years on supply. So when she wasn't working she'd be buying and selling, she'd buy stuff that was on offer from Amazon and various other shops and sell it, she was turning over good money and making good profits. Not enough for an income but certainly a decent supplementary income, but the problem was that she wasn't keeping records and at the time I was self employed and the ebay account was in my name, so I thought the tax man would come knocking, so I told her to slow it down a bit. Then she started working full time and it all came to a stop. We still sell quite a bit, clothing and toys mostly, but all used stuff or genuine "new with tags" that we've bought for the kids but not used etc.

So I'm quite a fan of ebay.

steve - my tensioners are good for at least 60K, them ones I removed had only done about 8K.

steve - that magneto; you can only realistically charge the same as a tip-top re-conditioned unit, like you say being brand new doesn't mean it's going to be reliable.

Dai - I can't believe you cleared the Tesco shelves and sold them all on, the shame of it

Haha, no shame in earning beer tokens for minimal effort mate

Tesco like to keep halving the price of sale items until they go, particularly toys and clothing, so something that would start out at £9.99 would go to £4.99, then £2.49, then £1.24, then the Mrs would sweep in and buy the whole lot, advertise them as "brand new, unopened, RRP £9.99, yours for £4.99 plus £3 P&P" and people would snap them up. Oh yeah, forgot to say earlier that (in our case at least) the P&P price is inflated a little to cover not only the postage but the cost of packaging too, bubble wrap, jiffy bags, packing tape, sticky labels etc all cost money, and there are other things to consider too, like the cost of driving to the post office :supafrisk: .
