Book price for mine is £3100.
You'd be lucky to get one as well specced as mine that drives as well as mine for under £5k.

They are holding their value but you've got to drive one to see why!

They're in the same class as the 3 series, they are as big as a 5 series, as well built as a 3 series, handle as well as a 5 series and are very reliable. Mines on 135k now and other than the auxiliary belt tensioner failing it's been hunky dory and drives like it's just rolled out the factory. Except for the rattle, I bloody hate that rattle.

it doesn't say much for reliability if it had to be pushed out of the factory!!!

If you need a rattle listener Sam, I'm more than happy to lend you an ear (although I'm sure you've already applied many ears to the issue).

Was going to comment about modern cars, gadgets and reliability but I just can't afford to tempt fate at the moment... :supafrisk:

Just went to dismantle the bottom of the drivers side dashboard to be greeted by an airbag for my knees. Going to have to wait for a day where I have enough time to disconnect the battery for half an hour before I remove it.
I think next port of call is to dismantle the steering column and make sure all is tight.

I've already removed and the instrument cluster as that's where it sounds like it's coming from. I drove the car without the instrument panel and the vibration was still there. I put the instrument cluster back together with some silicone grease where plastic parts butt up to each other to stop any squeaking.
Managed to scratch the glass while it was at it. It's not too bad though. It will come out with a good buff with some finishing polish.

Appreciate the offer Dai but driving down the 'slip road' on overun at 2500rpm with your head in my crotch doesn't sound too appealing.
Not quite sure if we got pulled over that "We're looking for a rattle" would go down very well.

But... it might be worth you taking my car out and seeing if you can work out where it's coming from? :supafrisk:

Oddly enough, the 406 was rattle free. Even after being an ex country car with 230k on the clock - it was still fairly solid.

Mazda on the other hand has developed a slight rattle from the centre console. It was only when I found a 50 cent piece wedged under the cup holder did it go away... :cheesy:

If you were to flog the Mondeo, what would you get?
1997 406 D8 ST Manual 2.0L!
