Just went to dismantle the bottom of the drivers side dashboard to be greeted by an airbag for my knees.

Going to have to wait for a day where I have enough time to disconnect the battery for half an hour before I remove it.
I think next port of call is to dismantle the steering column and make sure all is tight.
I've already removed and the instrument cluster as that's where it sounds like it's coming from. I drove the car without the instrument panel and the vibration was still there. I put the instrument cluster back together with some silicone grease where plastic parts butt up to each other to stop any squeaking.
Managed to scratch the glass while it was at it.

It's not too bad though. It will come out with a good buff with some finishing polish.

Was going to comment about modern cars, gadgets and reliability but I just can't afford to tempt fate at the moment...

Appreciate the offer Dai but driving down the 'slip road' on overun at 2500rpm with your head in my crotch doesn't sound too appealing.
Not quite sure if we got pulled over that "We're looking for a rattle" would go down very well.
But... it might be worth you taking my car out and seeing if you can work out where it's coming from?
