I got the replacement bumper, headlight and wing fitted today:

I cheated a bit by ramming bubble wrap in behind the wing where it bolts on, this holds it out to a position where its sitting right, and its bolted in tight so the bubble wrap won't fall out. Its very aurthur daley:

Despite that the bumper goes on correctly and the bonnet shuts ok:

The next issue is the camber on the hit wheel looks off

The passenger side wheel (the side that was hit) is sitting out at the bottom as you can see, do you think this would be the new driveshaft i fitted, or a bent strut?

Strut looks bent,
you might be best just swapping out with full leg off a uncrashed breaker.
id fling wishbone too,

these are not too bad as you can rob bits off sax'os if no 106s in the yards,

its looking better, well done it will make a tidy car once completed,

I've had a problem with driveshafts previously on the 106.

To test if the driveshaft is too long you need to try to move the driveshaft inwards at the gearbox end cv joint ....If there is free movement, ie, if the driveshaft is not forced all the way in the cv joint at the gearbox end then the driveshaft is fine...if the driveshaft is jammed solid against the gearbox end inner cv joint then the driveshaft is wrong...too long.

It must be too long as far as i can remember there wasn't a big pile of free movement,

This is the driveshaft i bought:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0515844772
the ebay seller listed it for a 1.1, but thats the problem with ebay, the wrong part usually arrives then there is a chasing about session trying to send it back and get the right part.

The local breakers hard has a few 106s and saxophones lying about ill try and get the suspension parts off one of those when you say leg is that the strut with hub attached? The current wishbone looks ok i think its a cast part so i can't imagine it got bent but it might be best to change it while in there.

just swap strut & see,
jasper's might be correct on drive shaft mind,

if the car had ahit on that corner id swap everything over, including the wheel throw that one in as the spare,

Its highly likely the driveshaft is too long, I suspected it after the nightmare it was getting the lower balljoint in, ill do as you say and change everything on that corner.

Ive already changed the wheel, the old one was severely buckled, the tyre seems ok but the steel bit is just scrap.

I think its worth fixing right, once its driving right, and sorted out with mot, tax etc ill have a look into getting the two panels a bit of paint.

I bought the car from copart, and they told me i need to apply for a new log book (i assume thats a V5),
but the VIC test is that done to get the Category C thing taken away?
The procedure over here should be the exact same as it is in england.

Depend's what the insurer's engineer has classed it as, if its CAT'C normaly you apply for log book and a few days later they send you aform back
saying a v5 cannot be issued as its been recorded as a total loss, they give you the details of local V.i.C testers location,

iirc it works out around the same price as an Mot test to have a vic test done, the car has to go in on a trailer or transporter, even if mot'd insured etc,
if it fails they remove the number plates and keep them,

vic test is only to confirm its not been Married up with another car, Vehicle identity check

its been a while since itook one in so things may have changed, and rules may be differnt in Eire, im not sure there,
you wouid have to check up with the ireland based DVLA.

Ill take a run into our tax office tomorrow if its still opened.

Here in northern ireland we work on the same DVLA system as england only its called DVLNI, its the south of ireland that has the different setup.

I got a driveshaft, strut/hub and wishbone from the local breakers for £40, spent the morning putting it in, bar the wishbone which looks fine. and the cars worse now, the bearing in the hub is completely f*cked, the wheel wobbles like mad, the only good thing was the driveshaft which fits in with a bit of free play as described, the old one was tight up against the gearbox.

Is the actual strut top bent? 106s aren't the strongest thing in the world (from all accounts)...

I bought another strut off ebay thinking it would be a bit better, the f*cking bearing is shot in it aswell, and they seem like a right pain in the arse to change without a proper press.
