engine layout

Hi all puggers, my first post and it's a question of all things.I have had a search here without success. Is there a clear photo of the engine layout for the 2 litre petrol saloon?
I've an overheating problem and the mechanic I took it to pointed out the part but couldn't name it for me (language barrier).
It's some sort of elbow bracket coming out of the engine block, with, apparently, some sort of gasket seal inside. Ring any bells to anyone who isn't as mechanically inept as I am?

Hi there. Umm, which 2 litre petrol? Well, I guess if it's the cooling system in question it's either the outlet tank (above the clutch housing) or the inlet tank behind the engine.

Ah, the inlet for the EW10J4 is part of the water pump, that saves me a picture.

Thanks, it looks like attachment #3 to me, any idea what it's called? I was told it's abot £60-£80 for the part from Europarts but I'd need a name first,can you help?

The mechanic was saying it's part #6 that had tha problem with a seal or gasket and was too hot to touch. Do you think if I ordered that it would stand a decent chance of solving the problem or will I need to buy the entire assembly in attachment #3?

Part #6 is the outer thermostat housing.

Overheating is probably down to the thermostat being faulty, at least I think that's what your mechanic is trying to tell you.....of course he may be telling you to change the housing, thermostat and the rubber seal which comes with a new thermostat....maybe the housing has a leak?

He was offering to remove the seal as it was causing the problem somehow. I had prior to noticing this inadvertently selected first gear while at 2000 revs and the rev counter shot up alarmingly so a blown seal sounds likely. I'm having difficulty sourcing parts for this assembly, I've tried two online outlets to no avail, is there a forum ace supplier that's recommended?
I'm in Mill Hill, N.London if that helps.

If we're looking at the last diagram then your engine is an XU10J4R (RFV).

Thermostat housing (or as Pug would have it, water outlet ) part no. 1336J4, about 15 quid from Pug if you can't get it from a motor factor's, who should be able to deal with the thermostat and seal (if they're any good...)

Steve, many thanks for your efforts, I think the housing itself is ok, do you have the nomenclature of this assembly perchance? Something is wrong with the unit itself but I'm not convinced it's the housing. I assume (big ask I know) that a seal may have gone or perhaps some other bit. Do you have a source or reference to the named parts in the diagram you kindly posted up?

Err... The source is Service Box (sign up . fill it in with any old rubbish, it's free ), any good motor factors should be able to sell you the thermostat along with its seal (probably in the same box). Unless, that is, you think it's the other seal in question?
