I have a 2003 HDI estate,horn just stopped working - doesn't matter how hard,or where on steering wheel I press.....zilch.
fuse is ok,& I've removed actual horn & tested - it works.
no other airbag / electric faults evident..........help please,preferably in not-too tech-speak!!

There must be something wrong with the horn push in the steering wheel, the horn is permanently wired to the battery rather than through any computers (for safety) this now means dismantling the steering wheel centre boss which I would not recommend if you're not confident with such things (bearing in mind the Air Bag etc) you'll need an Auto Electrician unless someone clever here knows what's up.

Have a read of this, I understand that the 406 horn is similar to the 307 procedure.
As previously said, might be best left to your local independant peugeot specialist due to the airbag.....

The airbag spring is a lot different there, this is the right one:

Good idea about the silicon grease, I should add that to the how-to.
Anyway, apart from the BSI 3 minute hokey-cokey and the weird connectors, the job's a doddle.

I am still at the thinking stage about doing this Horn repair job on my 2002 2.0Hdi Estate.
My question is, is it necessary to disconnect the ECU to just repair the horn? Or could I just disconnect the battery, wait a long while and then remove the
Horn pad / airbag assembly?

+1 - saves you breaking the latching handle on the connector as you attempt to disconnect it without removing the centre console.

So, first up you have to deactivate the airbag. Haynes says something like disconnect the battery and leave it for "at least" 2 minutes but, as mentioned, I left mine for an hour while I faffed about indoors. The reason for this is the SRS system has a permanently charged (i.e. it's always hooked up to the battery) capacitor in it, in case the battery is destroyed in a collision. So if you immediately start fiddling with it, it could still go off. You next have to disconnect the ECU, which is along side the handbrake under the center console:

The connector is held in place by that blue lever thing, you have to turn/pull it anti-clockwise and the connector comes out with it. I found that you can undo it without removing the console, to save fiddling about with wires, but it's probably easier if you do.
