Re: 1996 406 not starting
I found it thanks, it seems that it should be very easy to get to if the manifold is removed, is there some precautions i need to take before removing the manifold ? and how do i remove it, i seems to be bolted down by around 6 allen key bolts , and 2 of the bolts seemed to be bolted in reverse... so basically i can see the "bolt" and the nut on 2 of those bolts, so the allen key head is likely on the reverse/underside ?

Lots of rubber pipes/wiring over the manifold, hope i don't mess up anything going to take it very slow removing this one,i can't make out from the little i've seen through the manifold pipes on how to loosen the starter. i guess the whole mounting it attaches to needs to be removed.

I'm afraid the only stuff on the inlet manifold and starter motor in the repair manual is for the V6
If there's any chance you'll get confused take lots of pictures, make notes and label stuff.

Looks like that's the two studs on the top - #11:406owner2 wrote:and 2 of the bolts seemed to be bolted in reverse... so basically i can see the "bolt" and the nut on 2 of those bolts, so the allen key head is likely on the reverse/underside ?

Thanks Steve, that illustration is perfect
and yes those look like the studs matching in the same area as on mine, thanks... It seems i'm short on tools, i need the right size allen key and i think the stud nut looks like a nr 10, need to go get the allen key and nr 10 socket but with easter weekend there are no shops open, so i have no choice but to wait until tuesday to get it. Thanks so far for the help, it helps a lot having you guys telling me what to do

Re: 1996 406 not starting
I know its a bit late to say, but I bought a set of 'Seally' torx and allen bolts from amazon. I paid £15 with free postage and I have used the set for many parts on the car ( starter, calipers, backplates etc ) and I have given it some proper abuse...
Well worth getting a set, I thought I would only use it occasionally but I have used it loads of times, seems Peugeot like using torx and allen sockets.....
