Disappointing packed lunches

Do you get sent off to work with a packed lunch? I do; the other week I got given Chicken Tikka + Coleslaw which was a bit challenging I also got given Chicken + CHEESE + Mango dressing

Last night I saw her indoors preparing mine for today (largely unsupervised) and I was not consulted as to the filling solutions...............turned out to be Ham, Cheese + Coleslaw filling not something I'd normally request.

Been having Brunswick Ham + Cheese (must be grated) + Mayo and that's very good. Cheese + Pickle makes me gag, Egg's alright, Chicken Salad's nice too.

Does anyone have any strange or funny things in their pack-ups?

My usual is fairly bland ham, with a slice of chorizo to wake it up. Peppered roast beef is the normal 'standby'.

Although when I did I made my own packed lunch. I did experiment with various commercially-available sandwich fillings but the result was invariably revolting. After experimenting with various fillings of my own invention I discovered a) avocado, cheese and tomato ends up smelling and (worse still) tasting like garbage after it's been sitting for a few hours (I've since discovered avocados are one of the foods that trigger my migraines so I can't eat the damn things anyway) and b) cheese and garlic sandwiches are so nice they're gone long before lunchtime.

That too, an alternative to the coleslaw would be just simple mayonnaise.

You bastard! It's the most simple and best tasting sandwich possible, I can't actually buy pickle here so I have to import it and I'm down to my last jar

Egg's alright,

I've had 1 (yes, o-n-e) egg this year (don't tell the wife!) because of all the heath bollocks as they still can't decide if eggs are completely toxic or not actually harmful at all.

Chicken Salad's nice too.

Chicken's ok with just a smidgeon of salt, or (dare I say it?) pickle.

And could somebody tell these damn foreigners that a sandwich is TWO slices of bread with the filling in between? One slice of bread with something on it is NOT and never has been A SANDWICH (the Yanks might call it an "open" sandwich but they also seem to confuse a small baguette with a submarine ) that's just a SLICE OF BREAD with SOMETHING ON IT, you morons

Packed lunch? You lucky, lucky barstard!

I used to go to tesco for a "meal deal", or greggs, or a baguette shop, or the pub if I was lucky. Since my weight loss drive last year I've got a tendency to just have fruit for lunch, if I'm feeling organised I'll chop up my fruit and put it in a bowl, then chuck some natural yoghurt on it. Far too often I end up not having lunch at all though, and I rarely have breakfast so all in all my diet's pretty shyte.

They all sound OK, but I'm not a picky eater. Although in fairness there is some pretty revolting coleslaw about -- Tesco make theirs with mustard and I don't like it (but I will eat it).

I normally have whatever meat is most heavily discounted on Morrisons deli counter -- normally ham but sometimes beef. A camembert makes the ham ones a bit more interesting after it's been left to warm up all morning. Oh, and some lettuce, largely for show.

Best made with a tea cake -- which are bread rolls about 8" across and 2" thick

I used to do that in my 20s, 1 meal/day, 4000 calories, 2 mins max, shower, shave etc and in the pub 30 mins after getting home from a 12-14 hour day.

Incidentally, according to my wife a Russian sandwich comprises two slices of brown bread with a slice of white bread in between.

Not really a packed lunch, as I work at home..., but..

Half a sandwich of cheese and Branston pickle +
Half a sandwich of Brunswick smoked ham and mustard +
a tomato +
a fistful of Twiglets for the crunch.

Though recently discovered that local Morrisons do mixed offcut meat pieces.
Very tasty.

Well the fridge assaulted me this morning with Sulfur Gas so Egg is on the Menu

I don't eat much 'bread' I think it stuffs you up, we get 'cobs' (barns/batches/rolls in Engrish) from a Bakery and freeze them....I go 'crusty white' for mine.

I sometimes go to Tesco for a Chicken Salad or the Heartburn-in-a-bowl Pasta/Mayo stuff but mostly stick to home-made as it's more trustworthy and cheaper.

Anyway I complained about Coleslaw being added without my approval and she promised not to do this again.......

Ever made that into a smoothie? My packed lunch (and breakfast) is 2 of those protein-shakers with smoothie that I make myself. Berries*, spinach, avacado(or coconut milk), protein powder, water. Sometimes a banana for sweetness. Keeps me full untill dinnertime and gives a ton of energy.

*blueberries are best, even better when mixed with rasberry. Spinach is only for health and ruining the color. No taste.

As a man of simple tastes it's a good strong mature cheddar with a large helping of strawberry jam!
In my house I sort the lunches while she gets our 6 year old moving in a morning so I can't complain about the standard of my lunch.

Yes, but to be honest I prefer to "eat" something, when I have it as a smoothie, even though it's exactly the same content, my brain thinks it's a drink and starts looking for something to eat with it.... Then I end up grazing on biscuits or chocolates
