Third under my ownership, and it flew through again.
These cars are getting old now, mine is one of the last and on 101'000 miles.
Just thinking really, at 10 years old it's still totally rust free.
What usually kills them? Do they rot out in a particular place or just run into the ground?
Anyway, here's a nice pic of my car taken today on the way back from MOT'

I think the sills on some cars can go a bit rusty if the drain holes block up and water is allowed to sit inside them.
Rust doesn't seem to be a huge issue elsewhere as they are galvanised, i recall sirwiggum had rust issues on his back doors but I'm not sure if thats a common problem.
The rear backplates seem to rust away on them all.

Well done you. I think older 406's mostly die of disinterest.
If owners let problems build up without resolving them, eventually you have a list that costs more to rectify than the replacement value....
Mine is about 6 months older than yours, had 87k on the clock when I bought it 18 months ago, now on 124k. I plan to have it as long as possible - maybe another 3 years / 75k.

, A 53 with 101000miles is just run in, I've seen a few 96 car's with 300000+ k
Just check the leading edge of the bonnet (on the underside) & the sills
,but there not galvanised, they were zinc coated pryer to painting & some not that well

Lovely colour
We've had a right run on Samarkand this week.
Other than neglect, there doesn't seem to be any trend about what kills them.
As mjb points out, it's all the rubber bushes (suspension, engine mounts) rather than the bodywork that start to go from about 10 years.
Sold mine at 205k and 11 years old and there was nothing wrong with it.

It is a great motor, entirely practical & cheap to run.
Think I'll just keep on top of it maintenance wise & keep on running.
Incidentally it's my fourth MOT not my third...never failed one yet, somewhat of a record for me (even my Spitfire failed once!).
