Can anyone help please? Have owned this car for nearly 5 years now. Clutch started to slip at 80,000 miles so my friend who owns a garage changed it and fitted an luk clutch all was fine 6months later i was craving more power so i got it super chipped now it slips not all the time untill yesterday that is its not very driveable now need to get an uprated clutch any ideas who makes them its a 110 hdi its now covered 140,000 miles. It use to slip on odd ocassions but yesterday was a nightmare to drive. Have been told the extra bhp the clutch cant handle any advice etc please?
60,000 miles out of a clutch with extra power is prob not too bad tbh. Just get it changed with another luk clutch.

There apears to be something very strange about the 406 Diesel clutch. Mine slips only sometimes now, but more when the transmission is hot.
I was thinking about getting the clutch and DMF changed and then chipping the engine, but I would hate it if the extra power made it slip again.
I have a sneaking suspision that some slippage is caused by oil contamination from the crank seal. I think that is partly to blame in my case.
I think it maybe wise to look into a replacement clutch, not neccesarily uprated but make sure the other bits are good like the DMF and the crank seal.

No idea how easy it is to change tho, my Sierra Clutch was £65 and 4 hrs labour to change it.

Thanks for all your help have been away all week. Have clocked nearly 2000 miles and it seems ok again I agree 60,000 miles on a chipped car is a good for a clutch. When all is working its amazing the amount of power it puts down for a diesel . You are into gti mode 0 to 60 around 8 secs and turbo all the way to 130 mph. The only advice i would give to people who have a 406 with this problem change down gear and drive more live a petrol engine. ie at 40 mph in 5th drop it down to 3rd or 4th. Will try and source an uprated clutch still i think for when i cant get it in gear.
Bloody typical its the same again. If i take my time dont go above 2000 rpm and barely touch the throttle its fine Can anyone give me some really good advice. Is a 406 hdi known to have a constant problem with the clutch slipping? Mine was changed not long after buyiny the car as it was slipping. There was very little wear just marks on the face where the slip marks were. 6 months gone no problems great i thought new clutch full service history from day 1. Ideal car to chip have known other cars having no problems with clutches once chipped so i tuck the plunge. Very ocassional slipping just put it down to the extra power no its very un drivable. Would people suggest use it as it is till i cant drive it as i seem to remember it was a very expensive job lots of man hours to change. I think uprated clutch when i have the extra cash.
Hmmm I have a 2.1TD chipped. Original clutch, now at 119K miles. I chipped it at around 85k miles (to around 140bhp ), no problems still (touch wood). Those HDi clutches/DMF things seem to be more trouble than they are on older cars ...
Hi i have a 406 hdi 110 w reg and it slips only when i get above 2000rpm i do 60 miles a day in my car 7 days a week this has been giving me problems for the last 20000+ miles i spoke to a customer once and he said something about teh seals in the cylinders getting dirty or something like that i dont think the clucth is a problem because at lower speeds towing my dads twin axle 750kg trailer it is fine i and in november the cars seemed a bit iff but i still went to scotland did 2000miles with my wife and 2 daughters in the car and it didnt slip once not even up hills i do wonder if it is an oil contamination problem as it inly happens if you cane the car a little however if you sit at 55mph and do that for a couple of weeks the problems seems to disappear i will keep using the car till it starts slipping in every gear and at lower speeds for now i thinks its fine
I have to agree it must be when its been caned i drove it hard for a couple of days and i think im paying the price now. Blew a 2.5 V6 vectra and had a funny race with a bmw 330ci not saying my car could keep up with the bmw but i would of thought it would of left me for dust Im looking at changing for an uprated clutch once i have the money spare.

I wish someone would actually find out what is wrong with HDi clutches.
I am considering changing to a VAG car if I still want a chipped Diesel kind of thing. Having said that my next car is looking ever more petrol-like by the day

My clutch seems to have an intermittent slip.
It only seems to happen in 3rd and 5th gear when accelerating hard (overtaking) But not if I gently apply the power.
I've been meaning to check the gearbox oil, but without access to a ramp or pit its proving difficult.
