Ford/Jag diesel no boost
I put an EGR blanking plate into my friends x type 2.0 diesel, he was complaining of it feeling jerky when driving and having no power, the blanking plate went in handily enough but although he thinks the car is improved i took it for a drive and it felt dead, there is absolutely no boost at all. What would cause this on these engines, there are no lights up on the dash.
Re: Ford/Jag diesel no boost
Have you checked the intercooler pipes?
I've had a couple go on these.

Re: Ford/Jag diesel no boost
Did it have the problem before fitting the blanking plate?
If not / not sure, I would try it without and see if it makes a difference. I'm guessing it will have a similar fault to the Pug's 'Air flow higher than recommended', but maybe the Frod strategy is to immediately capitulate, while the fearless french Pug soldiers on regardless.

Re: Ford/Jag diesel no boost
The inlet pipe of the turbo was loose, there was some sort of rubber seal that held the pipe onto the turbo which perished, but we took that out and tightened the jubilee clamp as far is it would go, it needs something to sort it out properly but the pipe still feels fairly tight, is there another pipe for the intercooler.
Before the blanking plate it was the same only more dead, i didn't clean anything round the egr just loosened the pipe and slid the blanking plate in.

Common issues are split pipes and VNT failure.

See if you can find out why all X-type Jag diesels sound like tractors while you're at it? I've always noticed they sound far worse than any other equivalent type car I'm amazed they let those things out of the factory when the first few farted off the production line.

Did you mean the basically sound 2.0 'joint development with PSA' DW10 + effed-up fuel system,Welly wrote:See if you can find out why all X-type Jag diesels sound like tractors while you're at it? or the 2.2, (which has exactly 2198 too many cc's of Ford input)?

Re: Ford/Jag diesel no boost
The 2.0 and 2.3 in the MK3 Mondeo, Transit and the Jaguar X-Type which are code named 'puma' are nothing to do with the DW10/DW12 verity of PSA engines.
The Puma engines aren't very refined but are without a doubt the most responsive and frugal Diesel engines I have ever driven. They are quite noisy and unrefined as standard but get even worse as you put mileage on them. See, the puma is a cracking engine. Problem is ford went and fitted a diabolical Delphi common rail fuel system! This system required the calibration code from each injector to be programmed into the ECU. Now you'd think that an injector was an injector and as they all came off the same production line they would all have the same calibration settings, but no! Manafacturing tolerences mean that each injector has to be given a code which allows the ECU to adjust itself for that particular injectors charecteristics. It's this system that actually probably allows the engine to be so responsive and be very frugal!
Thing is after a few the years and a few thousand miles each injector will fall away from its calibration and therefore economy, performance and refinement suffers!
There's also EGRs and inlet manifolds which get clogged up too!
While I remember, get the X-Types inlet manifold removed and cleaned. It is a piece of piss on the puma and will probably be quite clogged!

Re: Ford/Jag diesel no boost
I had another look at the jags cramped engine bay, the inter cooler hose going to the egr housing is split, revving the car tonight on the driveway had a big gust of wind coming from the intercooler pipe, looking closer at the pipe there is an oily stain the pipe itself had a big split so a new pipe is needed

I stand corrected, young man.Bailes1992 wrote:The 2.0 and 2.3 in the MK3 Mondeo, Transit and the Jaguar X-Type which are code named 'puma' are nothing to do with the DW10/DW12 verity of PSA engines.

Didn't Ford use a version of the DW10 in something or other?

Re: Ford/Jag diesel no boost
Did they use the puma engine in the fiat ducato, my dad bought himself a motorhome back in december, its a ducato with a 2.2 diesel engine but no instantly identifiable markings around the engine to determine who made it, the only thing it says is puma on the engine mount?

I thought it would be an intercooler pipe problem....very common problem with these engines!

Does the front bumper need to come off to change the pipe on these cars?jasper5 wrote:FarmerPug wrote:I had another look at the jags cramped engine bay, the inter cooler hose going to the egr housing is split, revving the car tonight on the driveway had a big gust of wind coming from the intercooler pipe, looking closer at the pipe there is an oily stain the pipe itself had a big split so a new pipe is needed

Other than the cars I mentioned above all ford 1.6, 2.0 as 2.2 TDCI engines are PSA derived.Doggy wrote:I stand corrected, young man.Bailes1992 wrote:The 2.0 and 2.3 in the MK3 Mondeo, Transit and the Jaguar X-Type which are code named 'puma' are nothing to do with the DW10/DW12 verity of PSA engines.![]()
