Any walkers on here?
I need some boots! Done a few walks recently and really enjoyed them, so have convinced myself that I need to buy a pair of "decent" walking boots. Got a limited budget of around £50, and think I have narrowed it down to 2 choices.

On first try in the shop the Trespass ones are more comfortable but I can't find any reviews. Karrimor ones seem more robust but much stiffer and heavier, although I'm sure they'd break in, mixed reviews on them, some people love 'em while others think that Karrimor have sold out to the devil in the form of Sports Direct and therefore everything they make is now cheap crap.
So any opinions, experiences or recommendations?

Re: Any walkers on here?
I used to be a member of a hillwalking club a few years ago, i think i wore a pair of ordinary dealer boots bought out of the farm supplies shop, they were very comfortable and no need to tie laces, each walk was about 15 miles usually in the mournes or sperrins and i never had any problems with them.

Mrs Highlander has climbed three Munros, I've done two:
Mt Keen (3,081 feet)
Lochnagar (3,789 feet)
She climbed Carn Liath (3,704 feet) with some other walkers.
Due to her poor health, we stopped a few years ago, but hope to go back to it soon

Re: Any walkers on here?
I bought some Karrimor walking-style robust trainers from that Sports Direct and they were supreme, didn't know you were wearing them really. Only trouble I had was sweating of the feet although I get that in any type of trainer or pump-type shoe. I agree that maybe Karrimor are making stuff down to a price for SD (as did the YSL brand which I think killed itself off in the end?).
Maybe you could scout around on a Walking Forum (make sure you type that carefully in the search bar
) perhaps there's a lesser-known brand that's affordable and betterer.

Re: Any walkers on here?
Dia, I've just replaced my two year old Karrimors with a new pair of Karrimors.
I have to say these are the most comfy pair of walking shoes / boots I've ever had (we did eight miles the other w/end).
With reguards to sweating these are waterproof & fully breathable & I carn't recomened them highly enough

Don't know anything about Trespass, so can't comment on them.
I'd stay away from Karrimor, or any of the other famous names that have ended up
in the hands of Sports Direct.
They are indeed built down to a price. You get what you pay for.

Re: Any walkers on here?
Karrimor Annecy Dai, yes there from SportsDirect.
So what! (not at you Dia)
I have no prob with them, with a wife & two young boys to look after cost is king
.
The shoes I bought were £34.95 down from £69.99 & there very good quality, for what I want anyway as I said this is my second pair.
If cost where no object then I'd have a pair of Berghaus Prognosis GTX @ £100 a pair but then I'd not be on here as I'd be driving a brand new Audi not a twelve year old 406
My oldest son had two pairs of clarks school shoes in his first year at £70 a pair
& he killed them both before he outgrew them
.
Now he has had two pairs of Lee Cooper black Leather school shoes (yes I said leather) from SportsDirect at £12.50 a pair & they lasted just as long
You do the maths
, you pays your money you takes your choice
, I just have to spead mine a long way
All the best Dia, There worth a look DDD.

Re: Any walkers on here?
Thanks guys, I'm going to Swansea in this afternoon so I'll have a scout around down there.
Would love to go again this weekend but haven't arranged anything yet. Interested?
Done it 2 weekends running mate, I did a charity walk up there with all my workmates last Sunday (in the peeing rain and high winds). Having not been up there for around 8 years previously I thought I'd better get a practice run in before leading a team of newbies, so dragged the wife and older boy up there the Saturday before (in glorious sunshine and boiling temps lol).scotty73 wrote:Are you walking the Beacons this weekend Dai? go through, and outgrow, clothes and shoes rapidly.
I buy clothing for myself. I run a 14 year old 406. I wear shoes that cost around £130- £150 new. Except I buy
them on such like eBay, with little wear, and they last for years. Typical cost £30 to £40.

Re: Any walkers on here?
OK, so having scoured loads of different shops I ended up with neither of the ones above, I got a pair of these http://www.hi-tec.com/uk/jura-waterproo ... olate.html
Not the most aesthetically pleasing boots in the world but they were the most comfortable and seem to be very well made, a bargain at £54.99 from Tog24.
Thanks for the advice folks
