I thought it would be an intercooler pipe problem....very common problem with these engines!
Does the front bumper need to come off to change the pipe on these cars?
Not removed a bumper, no.
From memory they are a fairly simple job, hose clips are a bit tricky if I remember....long time since I did one.
Ive ordered a new silicone intercooler hose, and a 51mm to 45mm reducer for the turbo intake to sort the loose pipe there. Should get the car moving a bit quicker again.
Frank, have a little looky at the front sills on the Jag, I've just found out (friend of a friend) they rust HORRIBLY on the inner sills on the Pre-2006 ish models (something to do with water sitting inside the sills).
Google "Jaguar X-Type rust" and you'll see
Seems to me that plenty of should-know-better modern motors are dissolving again now, cost cutting??
Cars in my care:
2021 Kia Spottage 1.6 Pez Turbo Dual Clutch Gearbox Trickery
2013 Renner Twingo - donkey work
Ahy i hear rust is an issue on them, there is visible rust on the bootlid where the plastic grab handle meets the metal, and where the window rubbers rest on the doors, if thats visible the sills might not be in great shape on this one but there are plastic covers over the sills
Its the same as my subaru then it has plastic sill covers hiding rust behind them, i know from the time i had them off, although the sills are only rusty towards the rear arches, they still would need welding but they are not as bad as some of the pictures of the x type sills.
The big XJs and XK have some rust areas aswell, even the aluminium XJ has corrosion issues.
I put a new silicone intercooler hose into it and also fitted the pipe reducer on the turbo intake, the place where the intercooler pipe meets into its union was loose and the pipe was rubbing against the fan belt, some cable ties sorted that out, the engine bay is certainly a lot more cramped than the 406.
Nonetheless we took it for a blast up the road, the first time the car got the boot there was huge cloud of black smoke, but it pulls like a train now and drive like it should have.
