I've had a slight blow for a few weeks now, but nothing (in my inexperienced mind) too serious. Just a bit tractor like around 2k rpm.
However, while popping to the shop today, the silencer to mid-section clamp finally gave up the ghost. It took the front to mid clamp with it (which I think was ruined to begin with) and the mid-section started running on the ground.
I took the section out and limped home (with the pipe in the passenger seat).
The pipes look fine, the clamps are shriveled lumps of rust, so I've been looking around for new ones.
However I've found that there seem to be two sizes: 74 and 69mm. Which ones should I get?
I have a '97 2.0l GLX.
Also, should I use some paste on the joins before putting the new clamps on? I think I found some at Halfrauds (Holts Gun Gum?) for a few quid.
Exhaust clamp size

Re: Exhaust clamp size
It depends on the system eg dpf and cat
If it doesn't fit you need a bigger hammer
Re: Exhaust clamp size
at most motor factors if you tell them your not sure what size it is they will sell you one and if its wrong will change it for the other

Re: Exhaust clamp size
ServicePox shows 2 x 66 mm clamps for the 2.0 16V, 2 x 74.5 mm for the 2.0 petrol turbo or v6 and bizarrely, 1 of each size for diesels!

2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Re: Exhaust clamp size
I got the clamps and they fitted fine. Though now I have a new problem.
I think as the old ones went, they dislodged to front exhaust section (it was a little loose when fitting the clamps). There's still a small blow where it attaches to the manifold. The connection just seems a little loose and there's a little bit of soot around the edge. It seems like a different setup, with springs and whatnot. Does this sound like a serious problem or just a case of tightening things up?
