good tip there.

Might be worthwhile buying the clutch myself and then getting someone to fit it.

James... how would you rate the job of replacing the clutch on a 6. Driveway doable? Or absolutely only for a proper pit/ramp facility?

the 2.0 clutch can be a bit akward, as its a 'backwards' clutch and trying to get the gearbox fitted back can be a bit tricky, as you have to align it and the clutch fork perfectly, also getting the driveshafts out of the hubs can be a bitch, its driveway possible, but not easy, gearboxes are bloody heavy, though i will eventually be doing my clutch this way i think as mines getting so heavy the car is almost undriveable

Interesting... might leave it to the pros with all the equipment.

Whats this about a heavy clutch? What causes that... I hear it alot (all makes of car)
My clutch feels just as it did when I got the car. Easy to depress and change. Only now its slipping a tad.

Worryingly though, the Stealer mechanic told me to watch out for the pulley wheel due to the slipping clutch? Whats that all about? He said he didn't mean to alarm me, but its giving me the shitters!

My old Laguna had a (very) heavy clutch. It was because it had a cable-driven clutch and the cable (just like a bike's brake cable) had started to rust in the cover causing a lot of friction. Sucked.

Having said that, my 406's clutch is fairly heavy especially when compared to new cars. Don't mind that one bit though - it gives you a lot of feedback

your clutch doesnt feel any heavier blue because you've got used to it, i drive a sh*t load of different cars all day, and when it comes to go home thats when i realise how heavy it is, what makes it so heavy is the fact its cable drive and the cable runs next to the exhaust and all the grease drys out, and also the dust created by the friction plate collects on the gearbox input shaft and the release bearing gets stuck on this mess making it hard to move, if you do get the clutch done, then get the fork and the nylon/plastic bearing it sits on in the gearbox changed at the same time, wont cost much more, and considering the mileage your car has coverd it makes sense

Hmm
I've driven plenty of different cars lately, including a new Ford Transit, and the only difference I've noticed is the bite range.
Takes a few minutes to get used to the position of the pedal at which the clutch bites.

That being said, I've noticed my left leg has a slightly bigger build than my right leg

The clutch on my D8 1.8 LX was bloody 'orrible, cable operated, used to try and feed grease into the cable to make the thing work properly.

But the D9 is hydraulic, lovely! (but not particularly light :? )

I wouldn't bet on that. Meaning, I'm not sure what mine is.
With the engine off I can hear stuff squeek when I depress the clutch pedal
I've always assumed it was the cable travelling.

Just spoke to my mate who fitted my luk clutch and he hopefully will get my pug in in two weeks time to fit the uprated clutch :cheesy: He has mentioned his wifes 307 90 bhp hdi the clutch slips on that its standard in everyway. He doubts that the peugeot standard clutch is upto it and he too is buying an uprated one for his wifes car. How can peugeot overlook such an important part of a car :!: :!:

I suppose i like my pugs problems aside like alfa romeo drivers people still buy them knowing they will have sh*t loads of problems.Thats passion for you buying from your heart. Still like the 406 the drive when it does not slip   the ride comfort and handling but i feel my head will win the next choice mmmm. Shame
