2001 D9 semi-mux steering wheel?

Post by fattail95 »

Hi guys,

Need a new steering wheel for my 2001 semi-mux 406. It has the standard plastic wheel, is this the correct one?

Image

The listing says it came off a 2002 car, but it has the 2 screw holes at the back like mine does, so will it fit OK?

Many thanks!

Hi Benjamin.

Is the steering wheel in the picture the new one? It looks a bit tatty inside where the horn connects, but the wheel itself looks nice.... 8)

My 2002 has screw holes in the back too, but the airbag is removed by pushing a screwdriver through from underneath - same as my 2004 406. I should imagine the wheel is the same, its only the airbag which is different as far as I know.

Sorry, not much help - maybe go ahead and fit it when you have a spare 30mins and post up how you get on. Don't forget to disconnect the battery ( and don't forget the 3 minute rule ) and swap them over.

You need a T40 or T50 torx bit to get the wheel off, and leave the bolt in a couple of threads so you don't hit yourself in the face trying to pull the wheel off....

I can't see the lugs for the retaining spring on that one, this is from my full-mux:

I think the most obvious difference is the semi-mux has the hole for the airbag connector 'below' the hole for the bolt, whereas fully-mux has the airbag lead hole 'above' the steering wheel bolt hole.

Also, I believe Benjamin s airbag will have a single brown connector.

It is the new one, yes :) I'm getting it professionally retrimmed in leather by Royal Steering wheels, so the exterior doesnt matter.

Mine is very different to that, having a single brown connector.

I merely posted it for comparison, in an "if it don't look like this then it's probably ok" type styleee.

No problem! Once its done, I'll put some up :) Here's an example of a BMW wheel he's done, mine will be similar, with perforations at the sides and nappa smooth leather at the top.
